Fic Commentary: I Said No!

Drabbles are really my crutch. I like the boxed-in aspect of counting the number of words and the way it limits you to think of each and every one, but I go through stages were I think I rely on them too much and try to shy away from drabble writing.

Title: I Said No!
Pairing/Warning/Rating: NCIS fandom, no pairings, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Tony's bugging Abby.
Author's Note: Written for the ncisdrabble100 challenge: hundreds. Something I truly love about ncisdrabble100 is that they allow 100, 200 or 300 as well as multi-drabble stories. It leads to a much more creative output since there are more possibilties. I've also seen it as a personal challenge to write something for each and every week's prompt. This one, hundreds, had thrown me for quite a bit, until I figured out what tactic to take.

“Abs....”

“No.”

“Abbbbbsssss....” I love Tony, I really do, but sometimes he's presented as the most annoying person in the world.

“No!”

“Abby....”

“I said no.”

“But, Ab-bbbbbeeeee....”

“Tony, for the hundredth time, the answer is no.” And here's how it ties into the challenge. I imagine she's saying it was that put-out tone of hers.

“You’re mean.”

“And you’re getting on my last nerve.”

“I just want to...”

“I know, but I said no. The doctor said no. Ducky said no. Gibbs said no. Everyone said no.” And here I am, being LAZY WRITER again. What happened to Tony? No idea. So far all the reader's learned is that he's under a doctor's care for some reason or other and Abby's gotten the thankless task of keeping an eye on him.

“But...”

“No.”

“Don’t tell them.”

“Gibbs’ll know anyway.” In canon Abby believes Gibbs has ESP or some sort of special powers that lets him know everything, especially when her testing has come up with anything, so of course she's sure Gibbs will find out if she capitulates to Tony.

“Maybe not.”

“You really believe that?”

“No.” Tony has his own opinions about Gibbs. In canon they're a bit murky, while he'd follow Gibbs to hell and back for a case he doesn't appear to have the unshaken devotion to the man that Abby does, especially after "Haitus" and its fallout.

“See?”

“But, Abs...”

“Anthony DiNozzo, I don’t care that Tom Selleck autographing “Magnum” DVDs down at the mall. Your ass is staying in that bed until Ducky clears you. I promised Gibbs.” Ahh, Tony and Magnum. Canon's very clear on his devotion to that show. It's also a bit of an "in" joke, because Magnum P.I. was produced by Bellasario, who did NCIS for 4 years. To be truthful, however, it took me a long time to figure out just what it was that Tony was bugging Abby about. The back and forth was easy to imagine and write, but not the underlying reason for it.

“But...”

“No.”

Poor Abby, because one gets the sensation that Tony's not giving up in his quest for the autograph anytime soon.
