Writercon 2009

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] travels_in_time I learned Writercon 2009: Writing Between the Lines will be held in Minneapolis in 2009.  Which, just happens to be my backyard!

My immediate reaction is *flail* and *OMG meeting people's hard!!* but then the *OMG FUN!!* tries to knock those monsters into submission and *YAY FANDOM PARTY* takes over and *Wo0t! *

Since it's obviously just getting started in the planning stages for it there isn't a whole lot of specifics up at the website yet, but is anyone out there in LJ-land considering attending?  Anyone?

If I start saving now I could make it... the year after next

I can't tell you how much I'd like to make this possible...But it might rely on people taking pity and giving me a floor to sleep on

*puppy eyes*

Of course, in reality, there's no way I can afford £700 for flights, let alone everything else, but it's a nice dream *sigh*

maaaaaaaaybe.

I can't imagine many UK folks would be able to make it, no matter *how* crappy the dollar is now. Heck, I couldn't go if I had to fly. And, as is, getting the time off work might be problematic. But still...

There's plenty of time for you to plot and scheme your day off, I'm sure.

Yes! If I'm even still working there then. I kind of look out far enough there in the sense that since I haven't given notice yet I'm still there

I don't have a guest bedroom, but might be able to help out depending what I can convince hubby of.

coooool

I thought of you when I saw the location. I've been ruling out trips involving airfare for awhile now, but there might be enough time to plan, that I might be able to at least think about it. That is, if I can get a new job between now and then. In my current job, those dates would be impossible. We have to pay for our own substitute teachers, so that plus travel and everything would make it prohibitive. Not to mention leaving my students for a couple of days right before finals!

But it would be really awesome.

the timing really wouldn't work then- just before finals! *yipes*

But meeting LJ-ers would be awesome. A little freaky (I'm horribly shy in RL) but awesome

Me too - about the shy. Very much so. But I've discovered that a lot of my shyness must have to do with the "newness" of people and not knowing what to talk about, not knowing what we have in common, etc. - because in the past when I've met people who I already knew well through LJ, we skipped right over all that awkwardness and I had very little reason to be shy - we already knew what we have in common, that we feel comfortable with each other, what we like to talk about. So I really look forward to meeting Lj folks. :)

To some extent yes- that makes sense. But I freaked out for days over meeting in RL someone I'd known online for years. I'm a worrier

It's okay, I really understand. :) Hopefully you find that it usually turns out better than you expected. I have to remind myself of that a lot. Especially when attending social events. "You haven't been killed by a party so far, Rusty, and after 45 minutes of hiding, you usually have fun!" But that's after two days of sick worrying.

omg, exactly. That's mee too.
