“We’re sorry, you have reached a number that has been disco-” Bobby slammed the phone down, not even waiting for the end of the message.

“Damn it, Sam. Don’t you do this to me.” Dean had been in the dirt less than a week before Sam took off. And now he’d gone completely underground. It wasn’t like he’d sworn to protect the kid or anything, but completely losing track of him didn’t sit well either.

Damn Winchesters.

Another drink would sit good right about now. And there just happened to be a nice bottle of gin or two hidden around the place. Let’s see... he walked over to the fireplace, no wait, that one was empty. There was usually a bottle in the- no, he’d finished that one last week.

Aha. The bookcase behind the desk. It was crap, been there forever and probably buried behind god knows what, but it should still be drinkable. Or, as drinkable as it had ever been.

He knelt down. When the hell did it get so hard to do that? Pushing aside a Japanese text, a third grade spelling book, and two old bibles, he grabbed the neck of the bottle and dragged it out.

A spelling book?

The cover was pretty torn, and the pages all crumpled, but a very clear ‘MINE’ was written across the front page as well as, ‘Leave it alone Dean!!!’ The boys had spent a month or so here one fall when John was off on a hunt. Sam had passed his time reading everything he could get his hands on while Dean was off in the junkyard, elbow deep in some car or another. A small piece of paper had slipped out of the book when Bobby moved it. It stared up at him from the floor.
