Summary: A brief conversation between Jack and G'Kar

G'Kar watched the human male with interest.  So far he had chatted amiably with nearly every passenger, seemingly indifferent to race.  There had been some innocent flirting with a Minbari, followed by a rather intense discussion about what may have been chess, or perhaps politics, with three other humans.  He’d even managed to get a few words out of the Drazi, the first sign of life from those two since they’d boarded three stops ago.

“Captain Jack Harkness,” the man offered as he flopped down next to G’Kar.

“Oh, am I to be your next conquest?”  G’Kar took an innocent tone.  “I feel I should be honored, but then I wonder why I am last here to experience such a privilege.”

Jack laughed.  “One should always save the best for last.”

“And here I thought we all had something equally interesting to offer you.”

“Hasn’t it been said that all stars shine, but some more brightly than others?”

G’Kar leaned forward.  “Interesting, interesting.  So you think everyone,” he waved his hand, encompassing all the passengers around them, “has something to say, something that has value to be heard, but the value of some is greater than the value of others?”

“Not everyone’s willing to speak their mind and let themselves be heard.  But I still listen, when I can.”

“Sometimes it is what they do not say that matters most of all.”

“But if you don’t look for it you can’t learn from it.”  Jack smiled.  “I knew you’d be an interesting one.”

G’Kar cocked his head, eying Jack for a moment.  “You say as if you had been seeking me out.  Yet I am not the prize at the end of your journey.”

“Oh, I’m quite aware of that.”  Jack snorted.  “Believe me, my travels are far from over.”

Many fools had said that before, only to be proven wrong.  “One can not know for certain where a final step will be taken.”

“Maybe not where, or when, but I have a lot more steps in me.”  Jack offered an apologetic shrug.  “That I do know.”

“I’m afraid I can not say the same,” G’Kar offered, introspectively.

“Sometimes, what really matters, is the fact that we are moving forward, and not standing still.”

“There is quite a bit of truth in that.  You know, you are unlike any human I have met before, Captain Jack Harkness, I-”

"All passengers debarking at Babylon 5, please report to Shuttle Bay Seven.”

“Ah,” G’Kar sighed, “I’m afraid that’s my cue.”

“Not mine, unfortunately.”  Jack offered his hand.  “Not the typical Narn farewell, I know, but...”

“I hope that our paths cross again, Captain.  Goodbye.”

Jack clasped his hand and then brought it to his lips for a soft kiss.  “My apologies,” he said, grinning at G’Kar’s slightly shocked expression.  “I couldn’t help myself.” He gave the hand one last stroke with his thumb before releasing it.  “Goodbye, Ambassador.”

"All passengers debarking at Babylon 5, please report to Shuttle Bay Seven.”

“But I never said...” G’Kar began, but it was too late, the Captain had already moved on.
