“McKay to Sheppard,” Rodney called into the radio. Again. Not that he’d gotten a response the first fifty times he’d called for help, but eventually the message would get through. Eventually. Just as long as it happened before it was too late, because as much fun he always made of Carson and his voodoo, the man knew what he was doing, and while Rodney didn’t consider himself above a little field triage, this sort of thing was a little out of his league. A lot out of his league.

He lifted his hands for a moment, letting up on the pressure on the bullet wound. Crap, still bleeding. “It’s okay, Ronon. It’s going to be okay. Help’s on the way.” Which was a blatant lie, because they were at least five clicks from where anyone would think of looking for them, if they’d started looking for them, which was unlikely since they weren’t due to check in for another hour yet. Of course, if Ronon was awake and coherent, or at least as coherent as he normally was, he’d know that was a lie, but the way Ronon was slipping in and out of consciousness, a little lie here or there was probably going to go unnoticed.

Okay, pulse was still too fast, but it seemed to be stronger. Damn it, he should have paid more attention to Carson when he was blithering on about this sort of stuff. No, he could do this. Stop the bleeding. Keep Ronon warm. Wait for help.

If it came.

“This is all your fault, you know. You should have radioed in before coming after me. Now I’m thrilled that you did because, hello, no desire to be a slave here, but there were a lot of them and only one of you, and even you should have known that some help might have been useful. If you'd taken, oh, ten seconds to say, ‘McKay’s been grabbed. They’re heading for the mountains, I’m going after them,’ then there would be backup coming. Sheppard, Teyla, maybe even Lorne and his team. But, no, oh, no. You just had to go and take them all out on your own. And look at the nice mess that got us into.”

“McKay?”

“Oh thank god. How are you doing? Need some water? Something to eat? What do you need me to do?”

“Be quiet.”

“I can do that.”
