Gibbs loved working on his boat, finding and following the grain, watching as it took shape. Simple tools, together with a deft touch and an eye for detail, and what was once just blocks of wood join together to become something so much more.
Similar tools and techniques were used with his agents. The Baltimore cop, brittle and approaching burnout, a Norfolk newbie, as smart as they come, but without a lick of common sense - all those he chose and had chosen for him - he smoothed out their rough patches, taught them to work together and let his team shine.
