Author's Note: Written for Last Fic Writer Standing round seven (400 word whump fic, Ronon POV) and was disliked enough to be voted off.

It had been a long time since Ronon had been part of a team like this, one that was a family in all ways but blood. It felt good, but some days? Scary as hell.

“Sheppard!” he called out, again. “Sheppard, answer me!”

They’d been pinned down separately in the mad dash for cover when the shelling started. Teyla was behind the outcropping of rocks to his right. Good cover. She seemed fine, occasionally shifting sideways to let loose a few shots at the fortification on the ridge. McKay had found pretty decent cover off to his left, lying flat in a large depression next to a fallen tree. But Ronon had lost track of Sheppard during the first round of mortars and hadn’t been able to spot him since.

“Teyla?” Ronon called.

“I do not see him!”

Ronon looked at what was left of the path behind them. It had been pretty much destroyed, a mess of downed trees and half covered by a rock slide. Sheppard… wasn’t under all that rubble. He wasn’t.

He had to do something. “I’m gonna make a run for it,” he yelled.

“A run for what?” McKay shouted back.

“To get over the ridge and take the guns out.”

“Are you kidding me? That’s a terrible idea!”

“Gotta do something! Teyla? Cover me.” He waited while she readied herself. “On three. One. Two-”

A loud explosion ripped through the hillside. C-4 never sounded so good.

“Well, I guess we know where Sheppard disappeared to now, don’t we?”

Ronon stood up and brushed himself off. “Guess so.”

“Isn’t that just like Colonel Kamikaze?” McKay started to get up. “Run off while the bad guys are trying to blow us up. We could have OW!”

“Rodney?” Teyla rushed over.

“My back! Ow, oh god, there’s something: my back, I’ve been impaled. Is it bad? Tell me it isn’t bad.”

Ronon walked over. “It’s a splinter. Hold still.” He pulled it out. “See?” He showed them the sliver of wood, a little longer than his thumb.

“That’s not a splinter, it’s practically a spear!”

“Hey!” Sheppard was standing on the ridge. “You guys coming, or what?”

“I’ve been wounded!” McKay held up the splinter.

“Poor baby, I’d kiss it and make it better, but I’d like to get out of here before their reinforcements arrive.”

Ronon grinned. Just another day for his team, his family.
