March fic list

Not an impressive month overall

One drabble, 2 ficlets, 1 full length story for 4 things and 2204 words

[livejournal.com profile] _medley_ made me amazing art for Telepathy Talks (Click here for the big version)

Wrote my first LoM which is kind of cool, although I was sad to head of the cancellation of the US version.

My bigbang is stumbling along, I hit 16k recently which is great, but I'm not sure there is another 4k in the story :(

Randomly, it was announced today that "Guiding Light" has been canceled after airing for 72 years. Let me repeat that. SEVENTY-TWO YEARS. It started on radio in 1937 and began airing on TV in 1952 (while continuing to air on radio until 1956). I've watched the show on and off for ages, it's dreadful right now and I can't say I'd miss it, but still, that's a lot of history (over 15700 episodes) to say goodbye to.

That SGA story was so fun. :)

Not an impressive month overall

I know we talked about this last month, but I still think the amount of work you did on your Big Bang should excuse a lack of apparent productiveness on your end-of-month list. :)

I'm not sure there is another 4k in the story

I wish we could split the difference! I'm sure there's more than 5k left in my story, possibly significantly more, I just don't have time to write it. Ugh.

Maybe other folks would have ideas about how to bulk up your story? 4k isn't *so* much, in relative terms.

The SGA story was so hard, one of the few that went back to beta multiple times, just over and over but I'm very happy with the result.

I hope yours works, maybe you'll have more time than you think?

I'm going to keep writing and see what the final count is. Then I might throw it out for ideas on how to bulk it up if needed.

Some great ficlets this month, and as for "Guiding Light"? Guh! That's a long time, I might has seen an ep here or there but the only soap I ever watched really was Dark Shadows...... what can I say? Time travel, ghosts and vamps were the only way to get me to watch a soap ;-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I loved Dark Shadows too! Barnaby! That was one weird and creepy show.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I so loved Barnaby! Forget Angel, Barnaby was the vamp!
But the weird and creepy is what made it so grand! Convoluted story lines, backtracking, alternate universes!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Angel would never compare to Barnaby. Wow those writers must have had headaches trying to keep everything straight!

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think they might have been the original retconners

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Soaps, in general, are. The number of times a character is brought back from the dead is STAGGERING. I think Days has the record with a married couple who were each declared dead 4x. Being brought back after donating organs is all kinds of special.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
And people complain that people don't stay dead in scifi, at least there we have the aliens/alien artifact around to bring them back to life, generally with some nasty mental/physical side effect.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes! And I'll complain about NCIS and SGA and whatnot mucking up their canon, but on soaps? HA! A blood test will prove one thing one year and something entirely contradictory another. Actors come and go so characters will change race randomly, not to mention hair color or size. And Half-siblings come out of the woodwork and kids no one mentioned before. Meanwhile a baby born on camera in '95 is suddenly a teen in '99 and has teenagers of their own by now... soaps are weird

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
That they are, at least with Dark Shadows they *acknowledged* it, in fact they seemed to revel in it. Hey! We want this character to do this, problem with cannon? TIME Travel!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yep- they just hand-waved everything that might be an issue.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Magic! The Great Equalizer!
Right up there with Skeevy!Glowing!Aliens ;)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Aliens are the answer to everything *nods*

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Second gunner on the grassy knoll? Aliens.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
*nods* Absolutely. Or time travelers. Has to be

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Or Time Traveling Aliens..... with really, really hot side kicks named, oh I don't know, Jack maybe? ;-D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
*snickers* Jack would have been off flirting with someone

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, true but I can only see your icon so many times before I'm forced to work Jack into the conversation (pouts over the only five eps for series three of Torchwood)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
I tend to forget to switch from my default. There.

*Sigh* It's great that TW will be on BBC1, but only getting 5 episodes and showing them over a one week period? Just... WOW. I think it might overload some of us with the new canon.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I forsee a week of late nights. I watched series two of Torchwood and the last two of Doctor Who on youtube on an average of less than an hour after finishing over there. I couldn't wait until it came out on DVD, the wait was just too long

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, the DVD wait is FAR too long. I have had difficulties finding them on youtube sometimes though. There are comms here you can download them from also.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I've since discovered some of them. Youtube would pull the videos eventually but it would take time.
