Kiss The Cook

For some reason I love the pairing of Cam and John so I filled a whole bunch of comment_fic prompts about them. This is the first one:

Title: Kiss The Cook
Pairing/Warning/Rating:
SGA/SG1 crossover, John/Cam, rated PG-13
Word Count: 383

Summary:
 Cam loves mornings.
Author's Note: Adapted from a commentfic

Haven't read it yet, but YAY Cam/John! My Stargate OTP. :)

I wound up writing four. They are totally unrelated, this one's schmoopy some of the others REALLY aren't. Cam/John is just a perfect pairing in my eyes.

They work so well together for some reason. I really like the way most of the authors in fandom have fleshed out a few substantive scenes into such a brilliant history for them.

(though I just spent the day reading a novel-length high-school AU for John/Rodney)

If I had the time, and ability (which I'll admit I really don't), I'd write a whole AU verse for Cam/John. I love the ones I've read, although there isn't enough of it

There's definitely not enough Cam/John out there. Such a small corner of the larger Stargate fandoms.

We should collaborate on something. Figure out a good AU premise, put it up in Googledocs and work on it when we each have a bit of time/inclination.

ooh, that *would* be fun! The possibilities!!!

I've been wanting to play with the transition from the old sodomy laws to DADT and (hopefully) to a repeal with the Stargate people. There's not enough fic out there that addresses it in any sort of decent way. I don't want to take the boys out of the military (because it's too much a part of who they are) but take away the Stargate program (where they need good officers too much to care who they're sleeping with) and you could have some interesting stories to play with.

The handwavy of the DADT laws is one of my main problems with stargate fics. That could be an interesting path to take- how it's allowed but how it becomes accepted (or not)

I went to a talk at school a few weeks ago. One of the professors was talking about how it was just a witchhunt to catch gay men. That was backed up with a guy I talked to at the AIDS walk while wearing my "DADT is discrimination" shirt. From there there's the mindset of DADT is going to make things better, but it just makes things about the same until they add on the "don't pursue don't harrass" bits of it. I think with a repeal it's going to take time, but it'll eventually come out of ok.

Given Cam and John's ages, and the likelyhood of a repeal soon, they'll have lived through all three parts of it, and (if we can work it) have been on and off together through most (when they're posted on the same continent). I think we have to take the gate out for this to work.

But it will be interesting to see how they grow and become more comfortable with each other, and what close calls they have over the years.

I've heard that too- that things were actually worse after DADT, that people outside the military thought it would be better, but inside the military it was worse than ever

There's a reason they added the "don't pursue, don't harass" clauses of the policy. From what I understand, the original DADT changed the origin of the witchunts from the higherups to the colleagues.

And with that, I need sleep. But I'd love to discuss a possible joint project further!

and made it acceptable to turn your colleagues in. *shudder* I really do hope things continue in the trend they seem to be and it's repealed soon

edit- absolutely! Maybe when you're not in crazy time at law school though!

I think any project is going to have to be a long-term one. I can manage bits and pieces of work, but not a big long slew of it. Writing memos > writing fanfic

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-10-06 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
And while no matter how much time I have long fic and plots and whatnot just tends to elude me.

I think the way to do it, then, would be to open up a universe of shorts, each one standalone, so not necessarily a series, but all fitting together and working with the overall theme of the piece. It would be enough that we could work individually on short pieces (once we hash out a backstory/rough life-map for them) or collaborate on longer ones when we have time.

Alright. bedtime for real!

ooh yeah, that would work a lot better. Have the idea of the !verse and write the stories as they come to us, some being snippets some being plotty.

Sleep welL!
