Begrudging Acceptance

By the time they'd located the nest it had been abandoned, a single feather remained. Tosh started to bag it for testing when the wind snatched it out of her hand.  Jack watched the feather soar away, riding the winds towards the heavens.  The team didn't notice the sigh that escaped his lips as his gaze turned to the stars, or the wistfulness in his voice as sent them back to the SUV.   He slowly trudged after them, his place was planetside now, as it would be from now on, and he'd almost convinced himself he could accept that.   Almost.

Ouch. What a great image, of the feather having the freedom that Jack doesn't. Nice work.
