Huh?

Apparently someone has been leaving drive-by comments all over LJ that just say:

very interesting, but I don't agree with you
Idetrorce

I got one on a link at [community profile] ds_noticeboard

Why would anyone bother to do this?  (I'm not upset about it, just confused)

A very genteel troll that has the urge to spam but is compulsively polite?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
lol, good answer!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
True! If only more troll had that person's sense of decorum!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Yeah. Seems to have hit a wide variety of forums (fora?) if you google the username...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
which makes me go back to wondering WHY anyone would bother to do this....

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking 'bot, but that still leaves the question of why you'd make a 'bot to do this.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
some people have WAY to much time on their hands?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
there are so many other productive things to do with one's time.. like write fanfic!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
So true! Hey, speaking of which, what's your favorite Watch book? I'm going to have to do some skimming so I remember how Vimes talks.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
the best is probably 'Guards, Guards" but his character changes a lot in the series "night watch' is better for him as a grown character... although if you just want a quick bit the end of "the fifth elephant' when he confronts Angua's brother is excellent

(okay, that was fairly unhelpful, sorry)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's helpful! I remembered that he changed a lot during the series and that's why I was asking. I have "Guards, Guards," and "Fifth Elephant" here, so that works. Not sure why I never got a copy of Night Watch--I really liked it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
what I love about Night Watch is how they tied all the little bits together, from the hard boiled egg to the sprig of heather (or whatever it was)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, that was nifty. And young!Vetinari. Before he was *quite* as seamless in his plotting.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
he certainly was a LOT more sneaky (and snarky) when he grew up!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*sporfles*

"Go fetch!"

Vimes in Fifth Elephant for the win :D

Sorry that was waaaaaaaaay too enigmatic even for me

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, I love that scene, and especialy later, when the local constable is all 'oh, you probably didn't realize what he'd do..." and Vimes says something about, 'err, yeah, you believe that if you want..."

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That I don't remember so clearly but it certainly sounds like him :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Vimes is so snarky, it's great!

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Snarky and deadpan - he'd be right bugger to work for...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
better than my current bosses, at least Vimes has a sense of humor

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
at least Vimes has a sense of humor
You have to be careful where he's pointing it though ;-)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
'pull the other one kid, it's got bells on it"

I loved early drunk and snarky Vimes

Ooh,do you write Discworld? Cool beans, can I friend you?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I haven't actually written any *yet.* I just took requests in a dialogue meme and [livejournal.com profile] donutsweeper asked for Garibaldi from Babylon 5 and Vimes.

You're welcome to friend me, though! Just to warn you, it's mostly Doctor Who obsession right now.

[identity profile] idontlikegravy.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Who'd be obsessed with Doctor Who? *whistles innocently*

I mean, it's not like I'd write a load of fic, or post a countdown to Voyage of the Damned or anything. That would be obsessive. *grin*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2007-12-16 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! After I posted that comment, I wandered over to your journal and realized that it probably wasn't a problem. *g*

Yeah, I did that and found them on the apneasupport website. Seriously, this dude/dudette/robot needs their circuits adjusting.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
At least they are polite about it....

[identity profile] leeson.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Idetrorce is all over the 'net. People still haven't figured if it's a real person or a bot.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
seriously? But, why? What's the point?

[identity profile] leeson.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know. it's a mystery. Internet fame? Boredom? A code gone rogue? Who knows? lol.

[identity profile] amythest-n-ice.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
A sad Herbert with nothing more worth doing with their time, and an overwhelming compulsion to disagree with as many people as possible in one day?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
OMG icon love!!!

You're probably right though

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[insert Hitchhiker's Guide reference here]

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Just found your post, and that makes me suspect it's a spam-bot because you didn't express an opinion to disagree with... but doesn't LJ have that typey-wordy mechanism to prevent spambots?

*Should really go to bed*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
good point- the post was just announcing a fic, there WAS nothing to disagree with

*bed is good, it must be terribly late for you!*

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Half two! I have had blue food colouring.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
errr... what does blue food coloring have to do with bed?

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It's hyper-inducing and prevents me from sleeping thus explaining why I am, in fact, not in bed.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
aha... sorry. no blue frosted sugar-bombs in your future then (obscure Calvin and Hobbes reference, sorry)

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
That's okay. My icons are full of obscure references. I keep using that 'jam in the bath' one in the hopes that someone will go 'OOH BLACK BOOKS' but it hasn't happened yet.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
obscure quotes in icons? I have no idea what you are talking about..... *bats eyes innocently*

Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey ROCK! *g*

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:17 am (UTC)(link)

That is a brilliant icon. :)

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
someone is testing a bot.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
probably right, but who knows what they are testing it for?

[identity profile] kensieg.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
testing the security/permeability of the 'net? We are at war and the 'net is one of the battlefields.

Some people have too much time on their hands.

Remember the good old days, when virus' happened to other people and did silly, funny things like filling your screen with Red Dwarf quotes?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-16 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I don't think I'd mind a virus like that!!! "waiter there is a fish in my trousers, please fetch me a spade..."

[identity profile] idontlikegravy.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:06 am (UTC)(link)

"Fetch the porter, there's a frog in my bidet" was always one of my favourites. *grin*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I think my absolute favorite was the 'I'm going get a sheep and a cow, and breed horses" just for Rimmer's reaction
ext_15374: (snow)

[identity profile] idontlikegravy.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
That is a classic.

I can't possibly choose a favourite favourite, but this week I think it's...

*spends five minutes trying to pick one, then realises I can't decide*

I could be here all night doing this. But I won't, as I've work in the morning. *looks at clock* meep!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
oh yeah, impossible to decide, that's what makes it such a good show! Sleep Well!

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2007-12-17 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
And this is where I have to add "Smoke me a Kipper, I'll be back for Breakfast" as I should be off to bed too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry, should have offered you and Mrs Fibbles a kipper as well
