The Doctor looked at Jack’s haphazard salute and smiled. It was such a Jack thing to do, especially with the wink that followed to Martha. Chivalrous flirting was something only Jack could get away with. Most probably wouldn’t even try.
Then Jack turned and walked away, back to that team of his. The team he led. Yes, his old friend was a leader now. He might have assumed the rank of captain along with the name Jack Harkness for a con, but it was a position he grew into.
And the Doctor was inordinately proud of his Captain for that.

Love the phrase 'chivalrous flirting' too. That just about sums Jack up! :-)

You don't like him? I'd forgotten that. Does that have anything to do with the trouble you're having with the Old Man series.

The Old Man series is dying because I'm at a loss of where to go next. I should have stopped with just part one. that part worked.

And I understand about the series. I'm glad you did carry on, because what you've done is really good, but you do get to a point where you actually have to decide where you're going with it and, yeah, that's hard.
Oh well. Maybe something in the new series will spark an idea for you or something.

Don't sweat it. It doesn't matter one way or another, in the long run. :-)
I'm kind of at the same point with MP again. Though I'm hoping role-playing the Master will spark off a few ideas!
