Jack's Law

Title: Jack's Law
Pairing/Warning/Rating:
none, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jack explains 'Jack's Law' to Owen
Author's Note: Written for [community profile] tw100 's

“Owen, what did you do?”

“Nothing!”

“Owen!”

“Honest Jack, all I did was flick the lever.”

“Then why did the coffee machine burst into flames?”

“Well, you know, Murphy’s Law and all that...”

“Murphy’s Law?”

“Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong at the worst possible moment.”

“I’m more of a believer in Jack’s Law.”

“What’s Jack’s Law?”

“No one will ever be stupid enough to expect Jack to go without his morning coffee for fear of what he might do.”

“Ummm, Jack?”

“Yes, Owen?”

“How about I go pick you up some coffee?”

“That’s an excellent idea, Owen.”

*Grins* oh, Jack. I'm with you, I really am.

Us coffee-aholics have to stay together, right?

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
With the instant on the far side of the world.

(Although I must confess, I drink instant at home. Needs must.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Instant will do in a pinch, but only as a last resort. And none of that 'sugar-free almond french roast gingerbread delight' stuff... that doesn't even count as coffee

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
At the moment I have some super-smooth stuff that cost me way more than I will ever admit to spending on coffee. It's nice though! Almost tastes like proper coffee.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
oooh, sounds delightful. I am coffeeless. My evil husband used up the end of the coffee and didn't tell me. :(

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Evil! My sister has a habit of doing that. I try to enforce the rule that the person to finish it buys the next jar.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
that's a good rule. hubby would never be bothered following it though. He is, however, going out for coffee and donuts tomorrow morning (whether he knows it or not)

I'm a philistine... I don't actually like coffee, even though I love the smell of it.

Jack's Law *snorfle* Good job Owen is quick on the uptake.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
oooh, but you come bearing an icon of chocolate!!! *happy sigh*

Owen can certainly take a hint, right?

Oh, I love that! And I can so see it happening, too. Good sense of self-preservation there, Owen!

::makes coffee:: I am about to *drop.*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I *so* need some myself

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Jack's Law. I am a believer as well.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Coffee makes everything better! :)

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
*snort* Perfect! Much fun. :D

*goes to get own coffee and grammar-sense*

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I want to see this happen. Or at least some variation of this kind of interaction between Jack and Owen. *snicker*

I actually don't own a regular coffeemaker, only an espresso machine, but it gets used daily, usually to make tan mochas. And I am PICKY about the coffee I use at home - I prefer a particular local roaster, and in a pinch I'll go with another local roaster. I'm terribly spoiled coffee-wise, but I don't spend money on lots of other things normal people do, so it balances out. And really, I can and do drink regular coffee and enjoy it just fine. But I'll probably drink tea if I'm stuck at a Starbucks.

*giggles happily*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Where would we be without coffee? :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You own an espresso machine? You are my hero!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
*twirls you*

[identity profile] appleseed-06.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i love this. it made me smile and laugh.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad! :)

Oh, this one's fun too! I sat there wondering what on earth Jack's Law could be - but of course! *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-12-22 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
it all comes down to coffee, doesn't it? (Well, at least in my opinion it should)

Well, for Jack, yeah.

As for me, though - well, will you hate me if I tell you that as well as not being particularly fond of donuts, I'm not that keen on coffee either?
