2017 Yuletide Letter
Thank you for writing for me!
In general I like stories that focus on character development and interactions, hurt/comfort (especially hurt/comfort as I am a terrible person and can never read enough about beatings, gunshot wounds, hypothermia, whatever, and how the characters deal with it), competence (it's always great to read stories where people do their jobs and do it well even under extreme circumstances), missing scenes, and plotty adventures. Humor, snappy dialog and/or snark are all wonderful and canon type violence is fine.
Graphic violence and rape can be a trigger of mine, so I'd appreciate if you did not include either in a story written for me. Other DNWs include A/B/O, genderswap, character death and mpreg.
The Big Valley Heath Barkley, Victoria Barkley
Ah, my perennial request. It's a foolish hope to keep asking for this, I suppose, but if I don't ask I definitely won't get it so what can it hurt, right? In all seriousness, I love Big Valley, especially the first season. For such an old show it has, in general, held up very well. I was always amazed how gracious Victoria was with Heath; she truly came to consider him one of her sons (as is completely obvious by the end of the first season and the episode "By Force or Violence"). I'd love to see any story about these two but in particular something that focused on their relationship as mother and son. What made her open her heart up to him in that way? Why did he go from calling her Ma'am (as we see in "Boots With My Father's Name" and others) to Mother (as we see later in the first season like in "The Guilt Of Matt Burnell" or "The Invaders")? Also, something I've always wondered about Heath in relation to taking the Barkley name and finding his place with them was how (or if) his new family and new mother affected his feelings towards his biological mother and the women who raised him.
Boiled down, I love this show and there is very little fic for it, anything you write for it, especially focused on Heath, would be appreciated although please do not have him romantically paired with Victoria or any of his siblings.
S1 of Big Valley is available on Yahoo view as well as offered by hulu and xfinitytv for folks who've subscribed to either of those. Even better, and for anyone interested in the later seasons, many of the episodes have also been uploaded by this user on youtube.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Lee Crane (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (TV))
When not embroiled in political shenanigans (an ongoing plot of S1 that was quickly dropped) the crew of the Seaview faced one improbable special effects monster/ridiculous situation after another. Among other insanities the Admiral turned into a werewolf at least twice ("Werewolf" and "The Brand of the Beast"), the Captain got possessed by a ghost ("The Phantom Strikes" and "The Return of the Phantom"), the entire crew got taken over by a vindictive mummy ("The Mummy") and replaced by both waxed ("The Wax Men") and evil dolls ("The Deadly Dolls" guest starring Vincent Price no less), some even found their way to Venus once ("Journey With Fear"). They have a sub that also flies. The crack is CANON. It's also humorous to see what it thought the 'future' (the show began airing in 1964 yet set its first season in 1973 but later ones in the '80s) would entail.
Most of S1 and S2 is streaming legally (in the US anyway) at yahoo view although the entire series is *ahem* available on youtube as well. Episode summaries, pictures and show info are available here.
The Thing From Another World (1951) Captain Pat Hendry
The movie is one of the best examples of old scifi/horror out there in my opinion. There's suspense, wonderful characters, snappy dialogue, and clever writing all tied into a cold war allegorical plotty movie. I love the way it combines the tension of the isolated, unforgiving setting along with the struggles of the characters as they try to survive against the unknown and alien foe while disagreeing among themselves on the best way to do that (without demonizing either side) and still give us a wonderful action story with a touch of romance.
I really don't know what to ask for besides what was in my optional details other than to say I'd be thrilled with any more adventures of these characters so if you have any ideas other than what I've suggested, please run with them. The movie can be found in various places online including here or here.
Holmes and Walston (1975 TV Pilot) Robby the Robot | Sherlock Holmes, Darrel Walston

The official Arthur Conan Doyle encyclopedia provides the following information on the show:
Unfortunately, all that remains of the show is 2 minutes of bts footage: https://youtu.be/WQc72qGjfeI
I love the idea of a robot being convinced it's Sherlock Holmes and that it thinks its caretaker is John Watson and somehow convinces the guy to go on adventures with him and that they should solve crimes together. Why does Walston go with him? What happened on one of their adventures? How does the robot go about using Holmesian investigative techniques in the modern age (and while being, well, a robot)? What do the police think of it all?
I hang out in yuletide chat and discord using the name ibble so if you have any questions or would like more information just ping a hippo to ask me.

The Big Valley Heath Barkley, Victoria Barkley
Canon never told us exactly why or when Heath started calling Victoria "Mother." A story that focused on that would be wonderful, but I truly love their relationship in the show and any story about the relationship between these two would be absolutely fantastic. Gen please.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea Lee Crane (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (TV))
The crew of the Seaview faced one unusual foe or impossible situation after another: time travel, ghosts, dinosaurs, werewolves, mermaids, aliens, evil scientists, lobster men, not to mention, of course, numerous ridiculously large sea creatures. What other adventures did they have? Gen please.

The Thing From Another World (1951) Captain Pat Hendry
I love old school, black and white scifi/horror movies and 'The Things From Another World' is one of the best. One of the draws for me is the interaction between the characters, especially between Capt. Hendry and his flight crew as well as the Captain and Nikki. What happens after the movie ends? Do Pat and Nikki live happily ever after? Does he (and the men under his command) get in trouble for blowing up the UFO and destroying the creature? Or did they fail to burn all of Dr. Carrington's experiments and there's a new alien to face? Inquiring minds want to know!

Holmes and Walston (1975 TV Pilot) Robby the Robot | Sherlock Holmes, Darrel Walston
A robot programmed to think it's Sherlock Holmes becomes convinced its caretaker Darrel Walston is actually its old friend Doctor Watson and the two go on adventures together! What sort of crimes do they solve? What kind of trouble do they get into? I'd love to read about any and all of it! Gen please.

The official Arthur Conan Doyle encyclopedia provides the following information on the show:
"Holmes and Walston is an unaired TV pilot shot in 1975 by American director Bill Malone, produced by Don Post Studios, starring Robert Short as the voice of Robby the Robot and Jerry Mathers as Darrel Walston.
Robby the robot was programmed to think it was Sherlock Holmes, and Jerry Mathers (as Darrel Walston) was the robot's caretaker. The robot is convinced that Walston is Dr. Watson, and in the first (and only) episode they set out to track and together they set out to track down an alien (whose robot is played by a Gort look-alike) who has come to Earth to steal power."
