So in my watch a zillion Cdramas binge I've started Nirvana in Fire (only six or whatever years late on this one) and I'm only on episode 32 but may I say I am TERRIBLY disappointed there's not a zillion episodes about Langya Hall's amazing spy/notes/library system thing that we only got a brief glimpse of at the very beginning. Yeah, yeah, yeah, political intrigued and secrets and whatnot's all very interesting but still.....

(As an aside I cannot get over how often you can see everyone's breaths. They must have been freezing ALL THE TIME. Hu Ge was probably thrilled that he always had extra blankets and hand warmers and whatnot due to character reasons.)

Also, yes, wow, everyone looked freezing all the time. But it did sell the "it's winter" parts very well.

In the brief seconds we saw it, the library looked SO COOL. When I saw the wiki mention there was a sequel for a moment I was excited but then read what it was about (kind of looked like a second attempt to get the lighting-in-a-bottle success of NIF with more political shenanigans and intrigue set a few decades after NIF ends) and was so disappointed. SIGH

This isn't the first time I've come across CDramas where you can see people's breaths but when+where ever they filmed all the Su manor stuff it was just SO cold and so obvious and I just cringe for the poor actors. It did sell it, but COME ON. Maybe if you're so worried about your Chief his bedroom shouldn't be so cold that when he's on his sick-possibly-dying bed you can see his breath.

Oh good point, the walls didn't looks very sturdy but was it filmed on a soundstage and if so... couldn't they have heated it some?

I honestly have some questions about how filming works, since I'm told one of the reasons everyone is always dubbed is because the sound is always so bad. So... it's cheaper to have bad sound and ADR everyone (and swap out with voice actors?)

Yeah, I looked into that a bit when I first started watching them and it's a combo of bad sound/not wanting to bother (apparently wind is a huge factor and all the outside filming that's done in general) but also the desire for everyone to have the same standard accent (along the lines of how there was BBC's RP for a while and all those 30s-60s Hollywood movies and their transalantic accent thing) and it's just easier to get people to come in and record the dialog later.

Some actors do their own, some do not - which can lead to some hilariousness. There's a vid clip of various characters in different shows yelling at Xiao Zhan's characters from those shows (Untamed's Jiang Cheng yelling at WWX and Douluo Continent's Grandmaster yelling at Tang San and one other I think?) and the yelling's all by the same voice actor.
