O Mighty F-list

I need help coming up with tv shows that have spies or secret agents in it.  So far I've worked ten into a story (including Jack) and have a few more to try to slip in, but I have to be forgetting some.  Help!!

What've you got so far?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't used them all but my list includes:
get smart
avengers
the sand baggers
the prisoner
sapphire and steel
man from u.n.c.l.e.
la femme nikita
scarecrow and mrs king
wiseguy
I spy
inspector gadget
mi-5/spooks
and Jack from torchwood of course

Well, not knowing which ones you've done already, I'll just list the ones I know off the top of my head. Not sure how broad or narrow you're defining the genre, so I'll include Charlie's Angels.

Burn Notice (current)
Man From UNCLE
Get Smart
I Spy
Secret Agent Man (Called Danger Man in the UK)
Mission: Impossible
Wild Wild West
Scarecrow and Mrs. King
Charlie's Angels
Knight Rider (? - Maybe?)
Chuck (current)
24 (current)
Barbary Coast
Bionic Woman
Six Million Dollar Man
Cover Up
The Invisible Man
Macgyver
The Prisoner
Airwolf

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, good list! How could I have forgotten some of those!

[identity profile] thaddeusfavour.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I cheated a little. I went to IMDB and searched "government agent" under the section of "plots".

Kim Possible (since I see you're using animated series)
Martin Mystery
Totally Spies

[identity profile] thaddeusfavour.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And are you kidding me? I had to dig back to the '70's to get most of those! Ah! I'm old! :P

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You are smart, I didn't think f that. Actually, I've only vaguely even heard of those three though.

I think there'll probably be a point where it gets a bit silly, but oh well, the whole point of these kind of crack stories is playing spot the character

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
actually, it's the current ones I'd missed. and forgetting Wild Wild West is embarrassing since I actually even have a dvd of it out from Netflix right now

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Just came downstairs from watching MI-5/Spooks. Series 2. Matthew MacFadyen's eyelashes are amazing. :P

Um, let's see...
Alias
24
Bones (they're government agents, I don't know about 'secret')
Spynet (Canadian kiddie show)
The Saint
Where in the World/Time is Carmen Sandiego?

I can think of more in movies and video games, but you're just looking for TV shows, yes?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah- tv shows only. oooh The Saint! how could I forget that one!

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
P.S Espionage TV Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Espionage_television_series)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*tips hat* oh you guys are so smart! thanks!

[identity profile] thaddeusfavour.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Which one? The movie or the TV show?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
tv show- and Robert Conrad's amazingly tight pants has nothing to do with my enjoyment of the show. Seriously though- the bad guy's a evil genius and a dwarf, there are all these cool devices, it's just a fun show

[identity profile] thaddeusfavour.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I had such a mad crush on Robert Conrad! They were re-running this just when I was reaching the age to go 'yum' over guys. Oh baby! Watched him in Black Sheep Squadron also. ::sigh::

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* I loved that show too. The DVDs for Wild Wild West are great. There's even some audio commentary by Robert Conrad done for them

[identity profile] hellenebright.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Manhunt (set in WWII)
'Ello 'Ello (set in WWII)
Hannay (set between the wars, starred Robert Powell)
Reilly, Ace of Spies (Edwardian)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh, I'll have to look those up, I'm only familiar with 'Allo 'Allo.

although I'm already up to 15 different fandoms. there should probably be a limit somewhere

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know Wiseguy at all...

but there's a few on that list I could get very over excited about :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I have 18 in use now. Most are just a minor intro of the character, maybe with a line or two. It's more of a 'spot the character" kind of fic and not anything deep

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*is all excited*
No posting the answers - when it done - until us Brits have had a chance to play though, please??

Pesky time difference!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
my plan way two different posts. So when you've read the piece you could then chose to click the link and see who is who

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
ooo Reilly Ace of Spies - Sam Neill - that takes me back *G*

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
hee I was almost suggesting that :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a miniseries though. :( but yowsa - he looked yummy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reilly%2C_Ace_of_Spies)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
brilliant minds think alike and all that

It may never amount to anything though. I can't decide if it's boring random crack or clever. I'll have rely on a beta's opinion for that when its further along

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think their definition is squiffy - I definitely remember it being on every Sunday for *ages* To me a mini-series is something like 4x 1.5 hour episodes instead of 6 hour long ones... He did indeed look yummy

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
hmmm, good point. according to wiki it was 12 episodes, with the first being "lengthier" than the others, which averaged 50 minutes. That's like a typical BBC season then

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Convention then was the 'pilots' or first episodes of things were like a movie so they were generally about 1.5 hours long. You remember that right??

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
yep. they were almost like movies in themselves.

Now I need to come up with a nickname for him though that will be easy enough to understand

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Who? Reilly??
Maybe something Jewish... you'd know better than me
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Reilly

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
oh cool, he's a real guy! *hee* his history seems as muddled as Jack's though.

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes - real person - did you not know? Silly question - don't answer that!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't even heard of him or the Sam Neill show before today.

okay- I'm thinking 20 fandoms in 1200 or so words is probably a bit extreme...

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
But totally do-able *nods*

*hands donuts*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you. I'll need them!

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No problem. Another one I can think of that isn't on there is Wish Me Luck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_Me_Luck), which is about British women in WWII who go undercover in France. I'm guessing it's not helping you much just telling you names, though, you want to write the characters from them too. But! I thought I'd mention it anyway.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-28 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
well, it's all a matter of how much info I can find on the show. Some pretty popular shows it's next to impossible to find anything about. Really there's nothing in depth with my story- just a nod to a zillion different characters

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Zorro!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
*snerk* can you imagine Jack responding to that cape?

[identity profile] hellenebright.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sam Neill. Always worth watching :)

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods*
I don't go out of my way to watch things just because he's in them (I don't do that for anyone) but yeah *G*

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Sidney Reilly probably inspired a lot of interesting characters, but he was definitely a case of truth being more interesting than fiction!

I was prepared to throw all these titles at you, but it seems you're covered. Have fun!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read up a bit on him now, he seems fascinating.

the story's done and off to beta. 1300 words, 21 fandoms. *hides*

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Not many people watched it, but do you by any chance remember a short-lived USA show called Cover Me? It was about basically an entire family that did undercover work for the FBI.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
that sounds really familiar- but maybe I'm merging it in my mind. I remember a "Cover Up" tv show, not "cover me"

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Cover Up was the show from the eighties with Jon-Erik Hexum, the actor from Voyagers! who accidentally killed himself by shooting himself in the head with a blank. It was undercover fashion models and photographers. Cover Me was 2000-01.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
*sigh* that's right, I loved Voyagers! And Cover Up, I remember his death- that was horrible.

Oh, I found it (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233491/)at imdb. I remember it, sort of. I know I watched an episode or two
