Risking life and limb

Just to get the perfect photo.

Okay, not really.  But Mama Goose was REALLY unhappy I tried to get close to her goslings and ran up to hiss and spit and try to bite me to keep me away.

This is probably closer to "spring" than "summer" (as requested by [profile] smithy161) but I tried.

1. AWW baby geese. And yeah, that is risking life and limb! Or at least fingers and toes.

2. Best. Icon. Ever. Can I be the conductor on the crazy train? Please?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Sure!

The icon came about after I got quoted at metaquotes (http://community.livejournal.com/metaquotes/6734744.html) over what I thought my little Ianto-in-chains drabble implied about me.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-27 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, you got metaquoted--that's so cool! 'Tis an excellent icon.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
embarrasingly, it is the second or third time.

I ♥ it. It's snaggable (credit rawtoast) Another made-for-me icon. I'm almost out of icon space!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be embarrassed! You're, like, internet famous!

I adore the icon, but I think I'm going to leave that one to you. I just want to be the conductor. Tickets please! *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I bet [livejournal.com profile] mad_jaks or someone with art talent could switch it for you to say conductor.

My first metaquote was the lovely and embarrassing "You can never go wrong inserting Barrowman into things"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_medley_/ 2008-06-27 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
BWHAHAHA that's fantastic. And that's OK about the icon--I wouldn't want to change somebody's without their permission, and I'm about out of icon slots anyway. I'll just be the Honorary Conductor.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It was meant to be perfectly innocent when I posted it (http://donutsweeper.livejournal.com/62753.html?thread=1831457#t1831457)...

You'll make an excellent conductor

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
And I still have the wallpaper spawned from that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes* I have it saved as a picture, but never used it as wallpaper

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see how you might not want to use that one, what with kids around.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* for that reason I've never put on any wallpaper on my 'puter

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm all about the wallpapers.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I should DL something, or a screensaver, but... meh. Just never got around to it

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I just found a really awesome Dalek one at either torch_wood or new_who (I can't really remember).

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's all shiny and kind of creepy.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
overall, I'm no longer a fan of Daleks though. Far too overused in new!who

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. I'm going to be exceptionally disappointed if they end up being the big finale...or, at least, if they're the only thing in this big finale.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
you haven't seen the preview for it that aired last week?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I did, but I'm still hoping there's more to it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
absolutely. But lmao at Jack fanboying Sarah Jane

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. My co-worker was laughing at me during that scene because I was laughing so much at the show. I loved when Donna asked about Jack.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
And Ten telling Donna to stop it instead of Jack!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, yes! I loved that. Donna is so awesome.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I hated Donna in the Xmas special, but I've really gotten to like her this season

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
She went from kind of annoying to really awesome between that special and this season.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure why. Can't put my finger on the moment that happened

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I think, maybe, when she finally embraced the Doctor's lifestyle.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
she also stands up to him. I like that.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I definitely like that. Few people are willing to do that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
although if *any* of the rumors about her are true I WILL hurt someone

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I've avoided spoilers so I have no idea what'll actually happen.

I want glowy Jack kiss to save Ten though. It won't. But it'd be a nice visual

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be a nice visual.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
why weren't there any glowy Jack kisses in S2? We were robbed

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. Although, I think they sort of made up for that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
okay, true. Romantic kisses and greenhouse scenes and all that

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially the greenhouse scene.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
and the one that immediately followed it. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
dumbass gwen for not accepting

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
and ours, since the scene ended there as a result

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
oh well, maybe we'll get some dispantsia next season

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
ugh 2009 is gonna suck. 4 DW "specials" instead of S5 and TW's only 5 episodes.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I don't know what I'm going to do!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
with luck fanfic will get us through

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll probably also attempt to work my way through the books series at that point. That might help. Some.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I read two. they both massively needed betas.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
They really do. Most books based on TV shows do. I actually once put a line from one of the Supernatural books on badfic_quotes. The book was good, but the line was sort of "wtf?".

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried a recent DW book and two TW ones. *shudder* a lot of fanfic was A LOT better

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
They should hire the fans to write these. Then again, I think they'd be a lot less PG if they did.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
there's plenty of great gen out there- adventure/case-file style stuff. [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808's history of Jack joining Torchwood and his adventures there for example

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, they really should hire fans. At least we know canon.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they care about canon. Heck, even the show sometimes skates around it

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. They should hire us to consult.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
what blew my minds was "fragments" when they had conflicting canon in the same damn episode

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think only TW could manage that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
they're talented that way

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
And, yet, I still love the show.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
*points to icon* What's not to love?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
BABY GEEEESE. So cute! But yeah, geese can be seriously agressive. You're brave! Glad you made it away with all your fingers and flesh. :)

Where did you take this, somewhere near where you live?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yep- it's at the "Woodlake Nature Center (http://www.exploreminnesota.com/listing.aspx?EntityID=8872)" which is about 5 min away

[identity profile] jadesfire2808.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
We appreciate your risking life and limb for us, and for the cute! So cute!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! As if your icon. Bunnies! :)

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Awh, SO cute! And very brave of you *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Very brave! Mama Goose was a meanie! Glad you liked it!

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that was quite brave of you, and the picture is totally worth it!

We like the crazy train - it's the best ride around!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-27 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And, like all good trips to the inside side of life, this one has donuts!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Momma looks like she means business, there.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I clicked the picture about 30 seconds before she stormed through that huddle of goslings and tried to bit me. Woman on a mission. *nods*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never actually been bit by a goose before. Swan yes. Swan's are vicious and mean creatures. Their bites can break skin.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The last time I got bit by a goose was actually last year. Yeah, I don't learn.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried to feed Frank, the goose that lived in the pond by my old apartment complex. My hand apparently tasted better to him.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
ow! And you were trying to do a good deed!

One of the places where I lifeguarded had a few swans that thought of the area as "theirs" They would run up and bite anyone who tried to be there. We kept shovels nearby to throw sand and dirt on them (they are VERY vain animals) but sometimes you couldn't get the dirt on them fast enough and they'd bite. Owie

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I once watched a cat try to attack him. I never saw that cat go anywhere near the pond ever again.

Why does that remind me of the rabbit in Monty Python?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
*snerk* because you have a very twisted mind?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-28 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I notice you don't deny it

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-29 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
It would take far too much energy to deny something we all know is true.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's a continual state with me

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in a perpetual state of wanting coffee.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I just wish the 24 hour Starbucks was closer to me.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
oooh 24 hour starbucks.... *drools*

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
It's also one of the busiest Starbucks in the world.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It is right next to a college, too, so that helps.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
college students are in constant need of caffeine

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
sugar and caffeine. They thrive on it. *sigh* I remember those days fondly

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm just beginning to recover from those days.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
but you're still on 3rd shift, so it'll take awhile, right?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. I may have to wait until the summer is over to fully recover.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
any thoughts on what you'll do next?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
oops, sorry for bringing it up then

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's OK. I have a few ideas, I just have to figure out which one is most plausible.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-06-30 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I sure hope.
