Ianto's Secret

Of course, it would have to be Owen who’d finally overheard him.  Tosh would have smiled one of those smiles where her eyes glimmered and crinkled just a bit, but then sworn herself to secrecy.  Gwen might have giggled a bit and then teased him about it, in that gentle way of hers, for a week or two. Jack, well Ianto wasn’t really sure what Jack would have done, but it had to be better than this.

“You actually talk to them?”  Owen stood in the doorway, laughing.

“Owen,” Ianto started, quietly, but trailed off when he realized had nothing else to add.   Like most things, it has started innocently enough, but before he realized what was really happening he was in there four, five times a day and it was getting harder and harder to leave each time.

“You talk to them.  Don’t tell me you’ve named them, too?”  The look on Ianto’s face answered his question and then he’d had to grab onto the doorframe to prevent himself from pitching over from laughing so hard.

“They’re lonely.”

“You’re lonely.  They’re plants.”

“Studies have proven that-”

Owen stood up straight, reached into the hot house and grabbed Ianto.  “Studies have proven that when blokes are lonely enough to talk to plants they need their mates to take them out for a night of drinking.”

“But...”

“No buts.  Say goodnight to your little friends.”  Owen manhandled Ianto out of the room.  “You and me are hitting the pub.  You can tell them all about it in the morning.”

This did not end up where I expected! Awww. I love it.

“You’re lonely. They’re plants.”

Great line. It just works. :)

Ianto's not wrong, though, plants *are* good confidants. ::nods::

(Whoops, wasn't finished - ) Thank you! And hey, you are really going to town with these prompt fics!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Under most circumstances they won't spill secrets either! :) Glad you liked it, thanks for the prompt!

eta- I'm trying! And it's fun! :) With the right prompts anything is possible!!!

Awwww. Good on Owen. Secretly I'm sure there's an element of the pot calling the kettle black; after all, who do we see interacting with the plants on screen the most? Owen!

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
True, perhaps he protest too much? Hee.

Maybe the plants do hold their own attraction for him. *g*

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
oooh, you might be onto something there!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
that is true... maybe eventually Ianto swayed him to his way of thinking?

Bwahaha! Poor Ianto is never going to live this down!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe Ianto can get Owen drunk enough to forget?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
maybe, just a smidge though, our little tea-boy probably knows enough how to be sneaky about it

I adore the ending (Ianto/Owen is my not-so-secret favorite TW pairing).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't go wrong with implied Ianto/Owen, right?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. And, I mean, Owen taking Ianto out to get drunk? I don't think there's any way you could possibly go wrong with that.

Heh heh... Snicker. "You're lonely. They're plants". Ha!

You’re lonely. They’re plants.
So very Owen...

“Studies have proven that when blokes are lonely enough to talk to plants they need their mates to take them out for a night of drinking."
And er- *mating*? Sorry should I have said male/male bonding??

I mean this is us we are talking about either way is going to be totally open to interpretation...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
You folks always read just evil things into my stories. Who knew an innocent mention of drinking would lead to such interpretation by all of you? :)

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh please - it's Owen and Ianto and you sent them drinking... There really is only way/place that is going to end up :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh, and I get they'd get their revenge by spraying Owen with pollen the next time he came it!
