4 drabbles, one double drabble, one ficlet and one regular story.  3184 words.  Not too impressive.

Lets see.. wrote my 100th drabble this month and tackled a new fandom-Supernatural.

Supernatural must be a MUCH bigger fandom than SGA or NCIS or Torchwood considering the comments I got on my story, which I thought was sort of surprising, but really exciting at the same time.  I started reading massive amounts of fic in that fandom after the season premeire rekindled my interest in the show.  I'm not sure I *need* a new fandom, but then again I never really got into DW and I'm basically out of TW (with the exception of things by my f-list and a few others) and I'm not all that into SGA (too much slash, thanks), NCIS is pretty small, and House has too few stories I'm interested in... so maybe a new fandom's not a bad thing.  Despite all the wincest, there is actually a lot of good adventure/mystery h/c Supernatural fic out there.  Or at least enough backlog of stories to keep me interested for awhile.  I might write more for it, with out without Jack there.

I've become pretty addicted to the friend of friends page, which shows you all non f-locked posts by the people on your friend's f-lists.  It's kind of neat to try to figure out who's interested in who and whatnot.  I suppose mine is a little easier by having a small f-list, but I've found some interesting reads and things there.

I do want to actually write something more than a drabble soon that does *not* involve 20+ hours of research (like my SPN fic and the SGA h/c I'll be posting tomorrow both did).  Quit it.  It's not necessary to be that anal.

I still have no ideas for my "come-as-you-aren't" costume.  I've been having fun working with [livejournal.com profile] _medley_ on a project, but I don't think it's going to wind up as something we can count as a costume so I will have to come up with something else.  *puts on thinky face*

I set up a fic comm awhile ago.  [livejournal.com profile] donutville  And I've got links to all my old stories on it... now I just need to decide if I want to start actually using it or not.

Sometimes the word count doesn't come close to representing the amount of time and work you've spent on your writing.

I loved your Supernatural story. I'm not in the fandom at all, but I'm excited that you're enjoying it! If you really get interested (especially in the actors) ask me to introduce you to [livejournal.com profile] smidgy06 on my flist. :)

Donutville! Cool. Is there a reason you set it up as a community, not a regular journal? I'm always curious about why people - iconmakers for instance - do that. Is it so people can watch the community without friending?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I set it up as a comm for two reasons. I didn't want to have to shell out the money for two accounts and I din't want to have to log in and out whenever I wanted to post there.

The friending/watching thing didn't occur to me.

No idea if I'll really get sucked into Supernatural or not. I spent ages reading House for awhile there, but only wrote the one thing and have pretty happily just stayed on the sidelines. But.. Dean is very pretty and is fun to whump and you can have a lot of fun with monsters and ghosts... so, there's a good chance I'll stick with it.

Does only reading/writing fic count as being "in" the fandom? I've never been sure.

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't actually have to log in as a different user to post to another journal - on the Post page, where it shows your username, you click on "Switch" and it will let you post as another user without logging out. But then if you want to edit anything on the other journal, yeah, you have to log out and log in again, which is a pain.

Gah, there aren't any free journals anymore? That sucks! Livejournal has changed a lot recently.

Dean is very pretty and is fun to whump and you can have a lot of fun with monsters and ghosts... so, there's a good chance I'll stick with it.

I can definitely see that being true! As for what constitutes being "in" a fandom - huh. I hadn't even thought about it, I just assumed it did mean reading and writing the fic, or participating in communities and discussion (but not necessarily both - because if meta is required, then I'm barely even in Torchwood fandom. And I consider it my *major* one.)

If you're going to post to Donutville I definitely want to friend it! Do you think I should?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, I didn't know that about journals... oh maybe I did but forgot. Actually LJ just restarted the free journal option- I think maybe when I was setting it up it hadn't started yet or maybe I just couldn't figure it out... I dunno.

I tried the two LJ thing for a bit with my bigbang (posting bits for medley to read and comment on as I was writing) and found it a bit confusing.

I haven't really decided about donutville. I like having everything here, but at the same time it would be nice to separate out the people who are only interested in my fic.

*stealthily friends donutville* Cool name, by the way!

And I approve of the amount of NCIS fic in that list. And supernatural is great - I kinda really have to catch up on that. I'm stuck somewhere at 3.08 or so.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*tips hat* thanks!

Actually, I watched S1 of SPN when it aired, and then maybe 3 episodes of S2 and almost none of S3, but was curious about the premiere of S4 and got REALLY sucked in.. so overall, you've probably seen more than I have.

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I watched all of S1 and S2 and some of S3 - and so far, none of S4. Guess I've seen more than you have, but you're ... better updated, since you watched a recent episode, I guess.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
true. you'll get to see it eventually, right? I suppose I should seek out some of the earlier seasons to reacquaint myself with them

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
SPN bigger than SGA ? Really??

*loudly and brazenly stolls over to friend [livejournal.com profile] donutville just so I don't miss anything :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't have thought SPN was bigger than SGA, but commentwise there's no comparison. Maybe gen is just more accepted there? Or it's more active on LJ? I had 2 pages of comments! I was *shocked* I mean, usually crossovers limit the appeal and lack of slash as well.

:) If I start posting over at donutville, I'll definitely post a notice here as well, at least for awhile

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I had 2 pages of comments
And they were thoroughly well deserved - it was great

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-01 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes mightily*

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I hear, the SPN fandom is scary big, and there are many extremely devoted fans in there, which is why I try to stay on the outer edges.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
since it's aimed at a younger crowd the scary part makes a little sense

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I try to stay away from that particular fan section.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
there's some good fic out there though

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
even with just gen. Although a lot of the wincest is actually full huge stories and not pwp with is greAt

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's especially good, since the wincest is EVERYWHERE.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I discovered the hurt!dean comm, which is great. And from skimming around in the fandom, I'm happily surprised how much gen there actually is

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-02 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I should probably skim more...when I get my computer back.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
although, not the 'magic cock of love heals all' variety

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely not.

And, for some reason, I can't stop laughing at that phrase. I blame SPN for blowing my mind.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
*pfft* like it wasn't blown to hell long before then.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hey!

Although, the hell part is probably right.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I really can't delude myself on that one.
