Malls, ugh

Spent 4 hours yesterday traipsing around one mall and another five today slugging our way through the Mall of America to find daughter dresses for her upcoming bat mitzvah.  FINALLY found something she's willing to wear (the majority of dresses, according to her 'looked like a tornado threw up on them') and weren't cut in a way to turn a 13 year old into a street walker.

What is with stores blasting music to the point you can't even browse without going deaf?   *sigh*

Two gorgeous dresses bought (this one and this one), one shrug and one pair of shoes and my wallet's quite a bit lighter.  But, most importantly, it is done so at least that's something I can cross off my list.  Like my sanity.

That's kind of ridiculous. And totally what the general election has turned into.

I refuse to vote for someone who isn't pro-choice. I don't care what else they say or claim they'll do, if they don't honor a woman's right to choose they won't get my vote. And I couldn't find ANYWHERE that pinned down Ellison's opinion on the matter. It really annoyed me.

But it's elections these days. Yell at us about how evil the other guy is but don't give us specifics about themselves. It's stupid. How can we make an informed decision?

Same here. It's what finally helped me decide who to pick for governor.

It's kind of just turned into a popularity contest, anymore.

either popularity or a case of 'if you do (or don't) vote for X you're a _____" (bigot, sexist, racist, etc)

pity politics are never actually about the issues or anything like that

I wonder, sometimes, what the "founding fathers" would think of American politics today

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
They'd probably want to move back to Europe.

then again, they set it up as only those owning land could vote and not slaves or women and made sure it was a representative democracy instead of a true one so maybe they'd be fine with it

we can dream though, can't we? of a day the elections actually about issues and not smear campaigns

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we can definitely dream.

add donuts and a good cup of coffee and I think it'd be a little slice of heaven

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo...I could handle that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
or screw the politics and just get the donut and coffee

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kind of like that idea better.
