consci_fan_mo for the prompt "Torchwood; Jack/Owen; things that we've forgotten
It was later that night- after all that chaos with John, after being reminded of Gray, after time was reset again- that Jack remembered.
“Did he fix you?”
No recrimination, no anger, just the simple question. ‘Did he fix you?’ It was humbling to think of how caring the tone was, not at all like the Owen he’d remembered. Of course, it was impossible to know how much of those memories had been tainted by the events that led up to the rift’s opening. Jack was a new man now; altered by all those deaths and resurrections and by the answers he’d found and the questions that still remained.
Perhaps Owen had changed as well, or was it just Jack’s own ability to finally see beneath the surface to the man Owen truly was? In the end it didn’t matter; in that moment of raw honesty Owen had showed that he’d be there for him, for Jack, in a way the Doctor couldn’t be.
Jack activated the Hub’s sensors, searching out his target. He’d spent over a hundred years waiting to meet back up with his Doctor and had been left unfulfilled and unsatisfied by the outcome. Perhaps he’d been looking for the wrong thing.
Owen was in the armoury. Excellent. A different sort of reacquainting might be just the thing.
