Holding Down the Fort
Title: Holding Down the Fort
Pairing/Warning/Rating: Dresden Files bookverse fandom, none, rated G
Word Count: 235
Summary: Harry has a quick conversation with Mouse and Mister.
Author's Note: Written for aeron_lanart. But not crack, sorry.
“Okay,” I said to the lounging lump of fur on the bed, “I’m heading out now. No answering the phone and no breaking anything, okay?” My glare was spoiled by the fact Mister barely responded other than offering a half-hearted ear flick in my general direction. “I’m risking life and limb here to keep you in kibble and you can’t even say goodbye?” That earned me a snuffle before he rolled onto his head, stretching one paw out lazily in front of him. “Fine! I can tell when I’m not wanted!”
As I headed to the door Mouse lumbered up to me with a whine of excitement and tried to beat me into submission with several dozen tail fwaps. “Sorry, boy. You gotta sit this one out.” Having Mouse at my side was always nice, but this time it would blow my cover way to soon. “Hold down the fort for me, okay?” Getting resounding woof from him, I threw on my duster and checked my pockets to make sure I had everything one last time. “And don’t take any gruff from Mister, remember, you’re in charge when I’m gone.” I waggled my finger in his face. “And don’t you forget that!” I added as I left, laughing at the horrified look on Mouse’s face as I closed the door, Mister was lord of the manor and that dog knew it. He was so whipped.
