“Agent Gibbs?” a voice called out from the shadows.

Gibbs spun around, gun drawn. “Show yourself.” It was an order, but said quietly and with an implied threat behind it.

“Now, what sort of greeting is that?” A man, his coat swirling behind him, emerged from the darkness, stepping into the light.

“Captain Harkness,” Gibbs said, coldly. He lowered his gun, but didn’t put it away.

“You’re thrilled to make my acquaintance again,” Harkness joked, “I can tell.”

“Is there a reason you’re haunting the streets of D.C.?”

“Maybe I just wanted to see you again?” Holding his hands out, to show he was unarmed, Harkness stepped closer, his smile wide for a minute before it dropped. “Right. Not one for small talk, I remember that now. I’m going to reach into my coat to get some papers for you. Tomorrow morning you’ll be called in on a case, the murder of a Major Ellings, and there are a few things you need to be aware of before you blunder in willy nilly.” He slipped a large folded manila envelope out of his pocket and offered it to Gibbs.

“I do not blunder.” Gibbs reached out and grabbed the envelope, but Harkness didn’t let go.

“I would hope not. Doctor Mallard, excuse me, Ducky, always speaks very highly of you, I’d hate to have you disappoint him.”

“I’ve never given Ducky any reason to be disappointed in me.” When Gibbs tilted his head towards the papers Harkness handed them over.

“Now, we both know that’s not true. Make sure you pass the pertinent information on to him for me.” Harkness shoved his hands in his pockets and turned around. “It’s been fun. Until next time,” he said as he walked away, melting back into the darkness, whistling along the way.
