“A little higher, Jethro, and to the left.”

“Here?” Gibbs obligingly slid the banner over and up a few inches.

“No, a little to the right I think.”

“Here?”

Ducky stepped back to get a better look. “A little lower now.”

“Here?”

“No, I think it still might be uneven...”

“Duck, it’s fine. Just hand me the tape.” Gibbs turned to see Ducky purse his lips, eying it one last time. Eventually, giving a quick nod, he reached over and handed Gibbs the tape.

“I do hope Mr. Palmer,” Ducky started to say before stopping himself with a quick head shake. “Oh dear me, I’m afraid it’s going to be hard to remember not to call him that.”

“I know,” Gibbs said, sympathetically as he reached out and squeezed Ducky’s shoulder.

“I shan’t get maudlin. This is a wonderful moment for him, it’s just that he’s worked with me so long, I shall be sorry to see him go.”

“I know, Duck. I know.” Gibbs checked his watch. “Abby and the team should be bringing him down any minute. I can call, get them to delay, if you’re not ready.”

“No, no. I’m fine. It’s time to celebrate, yes?”

“Absolutely,” Gibbs agreed as the elevator door opened.

Abby pulled Jimmy out of the elevator, dragging him into autopsy with a loud, “Ta-Da!”

Ducky held up a bottle of champagne. “Congratulations, Doctor Palmer!”
