Fake Documenary?

This has been driving my husband nuts. He vaguely remembers watching a fake British punk band documentary (mock-umentary sort of movie) ala 'This is Spinal Tap' but came out before Spinal Tap. It was not an American production. Any one have any ideas?

Eta- It was Bad News by The Comic Strip Presents, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] aeron_lanart!!!!

Could it be the Beatles send-up "All You Need Is Cash" done by Eric Idle with a bunch of Pythons and SNL types?

I'm also thinking maybe Still Crazy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0149151/), although I don't think that was done "mockumentary" style.

He said it was mentioned in a review of "this is Spinal Tap" so it can't be Still crazy, but "All You Need is Cash" is a possibility. Although, he's a Python fan, so I'd have thought he'd have remembered them being in it.

I'll ask him tonight. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have no idea what it could be, but if nobody else is able to think of it either, you might want to try asking over at [profile] whatwasthatone. Maybe they'll know.

Ooh, I forgot about that comm. Thanks. I'll see if anyone comes up with suggestions or if hubby can remember anything more. That's a good resource!

Oh, just a few weeks ago I heard Jonathan Ross interview some guy from a mockumentary that fits that description - the "band" in the movie was actually getting together again and giving real performances. But I can't remember their name.

Was it Still Crazy, about Strange Fruit? It had Bill Nighy in it!

I don't think it was Still Crazy because Hubby said it was made before "Spinal Tap' but I'll ask him

I wish I could find a list of past guests on Jonathan Ross's radio show, because it really sounded like the thing you're talking about. Sigh. Sorry!

[livejournal.com profile] karaokegal suggested "All You Need Is Cash" which is a possibility, I'll ask him tonight. :)

I can't help you out with a specific title, but wiki has an entry on mockumentaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mockumentary#Film) with a list of films there, if that might ring any bells for him.

I never remember about wiki. Thanks! I'll show him tonight!

Bad News (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_News_Tour) by The Comic Strip Presents by any chance? Came out a year before This is Spinal Tap and is most definitely NOT American.

This is it for sure. "Answer that and stay fashionable" is the best line ever, and wasn't there a sequel also??

It still stands up as quality even all these years later.

wasn't there a sequel also??

Yup. More Bad News...

I shall ask him, thanks!

That was going to be the one I'd suggest too. Sounds like a strong contender.

YES! That was it. Thanks so much!
