A close-knit community

It took 23 years but they knitted their entire village.

"At first sight, this looks like a classic British village.

There's a beautiful Norman church, two pubs, a shop, a school, a village hall, a huge Georgian manor house with landscaped gardens, teenagers slouched around the bus shelter and dozens of red-brick cottages with gardens in full bloom and vegetable patches bursting with cabbages, cauliflowers and sweet peas.....every inch of this village - Mersham, in Kent - has been lovingly knitted by a small group of very twinkly ladies who started 23 years ago with a couple of cottages and some pigs, and ended up creating more than 60 properties, complete with wheelie bins, outdoor loos, gas tanks, cars in the driveways and even a smart red telephone box."

Go take a look at the rest of the pictures. It's amazing.

That is amazing.

And as someone who has, over the years, knitted and made knitted toys, I can attest to the fact that these things aren't as easy as they look.

I'm not a good knitter. The detail work on these houses just amazes me.

It was a wonderful project, as you say the detail was amazing.

I'm not sure if I feel amazed or disturbed ;-)

I guess I'll go with flabergasted just for fun

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
that was pretty much my response as well. And overall awe at their talent.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, awe over their talent is nice and safe. NOt to mention is keeps one from dwelling on WHAT it was they used their talent on. *g*

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But all of my points are always excellent *g*

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL!
Love the icon....... because sometimes you just *have* to cackle madly

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It goes along with this one quite well

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes it does.
I've been considering getting a paid account just because since I started making icons (not very well, but it can be fun) I've made more than I can use w/ a free account

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Paid accounts are wonderful. You can also get even more icon space by adding on extra to it.

[identity profile] kateri-e.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Must give even more serious thought to it now

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-18 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It can add up (money wise) but the enjoyment factor is worth it for me.

[identity profile] travels-in-time.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
That is AWESOME. "Very twinkly ladies", I love that.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
All that work! It's completely insane. just wow, right?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, they even knitted the gardens.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-20 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
and the cricket players and... it's a little scary. But in a good way

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, I'm currently reading the Hitchhiker's Guide series, so, for some reason, the idea of knitted cricket players is just hilarious.

Improbability drive gone wrong?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
All I can think of now is in the movie when he was puking yarn.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Not nearly as fun as the books, though.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure people on the bus wonder about my sanity as I'm laughing into my book.

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Very. I love the color, too.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
no ho hums colors allowed for such a sentiment.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
although a sparkly silver would have worked nicely too

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-05-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree.
