Superman, Clark Kent and Me

Title: Superman, Clark Kent and Me
Pairing/Rating/Warning: none, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Saving the world isn't all it's cracked up to be
Author's Note: Written for the Moving Words and Pictures Flashfic Challenge using [profile] fandom_me's video "Far Too Long."

I’m not Superman.  They expect me to save the day, but leave before I’m done.  They die.  I die.  Time and everything else gets in the way.  I’m forced to leave, or they are, and then I’m alone.

Some days I wish I was Clark Kent.  He never saved the world or got the girl, or the guy, but he was reliable and dependable in his own way.  And he could just live.  Live one day at a time without worrying about the next battle looming on the horizon.

Clark Kent was Superman, but I just want to be me.

This is probably the thing that moves me the most about superheroes, how often, in the end, they long for this impossible thing. (I'm a huge sucker for Superman/Clark Kent references!) I hadn't thought about Jack that way before, specifically, but it sure works and it's lovely and sad. Very nice.
