NCIS: LA SPOILER

Question: What's the deal with Louise Lombard's exit from NCIS: Los Angeles? I thought she was great. Are they recasting the character, or making a new one entirely? --Amy
Ausiello: That's TBD. My guess? They'll introduce a new character. And as far as why Lombard got the boot, I hear Macy didn't test well with viewers.

Or, the ever cynical donutsweeper wonders if she got swept up with the fact the fans were just sick and tired of OMG ITS A GIBBS SEKKRIT and the magic of the year with twelve thousand days.....

LOL!!!! Very true. It may have been less about LL and more about "but that's not what happened! They said in Hiatus...".

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Don't get me wrong, I don't think they chose to portray Macy well either, but a huge chunk of the issue was just that all our backs went up when we heard about the big sekkrit tie-in she had with Gibbs. (And SB lying his ass off regarding 'Legend' didn't help)

He really needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
He really, really does. All he manages is to annoy the fans.

Although the Bones producers have him beat. Apparently there was a major kerfuffle regarding what was released to the press as to what would happen in the finale and what actually aired. Fans were seething.

*headdesk*

If your show itself can't drum up interest, you've got a problem. You shouldn't *need* to do more than come up with a good promo to get people to watch.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
And good 'buzzwords'

I do find it odd that this year, with it's highest ratings ever, most fans I know seem to think it's the weakest season with the worst plots and character development.

[identity profile] tejas.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Once again, the ratings are, I think, directly due to the USA reruns making the *good* seasons readily available.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Although, honestly, I'm getting a little tired of NCIS's reruns. I click them on and *sigh* "seen it 10x already" and often turn it off. It's been overexposed.

I think the whole mess is going to come back to bite them.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
and ncis:la isn't different enough. JAG and NCIS were entirely different shows. NCIS/NCIS:LA (*shudders at the name*) are practically the same thing.

It'll be interesting to see if they can truly differentiate them. I'll give it a shot and see what they do with it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'll give it a shot too... but I don't have high hopes.

The nice thing about low expectations is that it's hard to be disappointed. :-)

LOL!!! SB does seem to be talented that way. Been hanging out with The Boyz from Bridge, maybe.

let's hope not. Or let's hope he delegates a lot now that he has two shows.

Man, I *hope* so!

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I am not, in fact, bouncing with glee about this...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
is that along the lines of 'ignore the man behind the curtain'?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Only I guess this would be "ignore the frog in front of the curtain".

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
especially when said frog is dancing?

[identity profile] the-dark-side.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Very much so.

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, I've been looking at your subject line for an hour thinking you were using a French article with the word "spoiler" to be cute or something. But I just realized it probably answers a question I'd been meaning to ask, if those NCIS episodes where they went to Los Angeles and introduced what was clearly a whole new cast meant that there was going to be a spinoff.

(Which reminds me, I really need to watch the last two episodes of the season... I didn't know it was coming back! I thought this season was the last one.)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, the two episode arc was a spinoff, the same way NCIS spun off from JAG with the 2 episode arc way back when. It was... *meh*

Yep, NCIS had it's best ratings ever this season so S7 was a guarantee.

please forgive the journal

There's an NCIS: Los Angeles???

Re: please forgive the journal

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
new spinoff, starting '09-'10 season. There was a two-parter near the end of this season on NCIS that introduced the characters and whatnot. (like the two parter on JAG that introduced the NCIS people)

Re: please forgive the journal

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2009-06-07 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
hmmm So I shan't expect the spin off to arrive here for another couple of years then...

probably not, unless it gets really popular. It is supposed to star LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell. (or that's what they are saying now)

That's a slightly odd combination!

they were fairly decent in the two parter. It had vague potential overall, but for some reason the writers decided to write the leader of that NCIS group (Macy, the character/actress being replaced) as having a tie to Gibbs and it was a VERY stupid and unbelievable one that annoyed most fans I know. So I can't say I'm sorry she's gone. (The fact the writers can't write a decent woman character didnt help either)

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2009-06-08 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have to admit I didn't like Macy much. I have this issue with Women In Power, or maybe at least how the JAG/NCIS people write them. They just come off as so...I hate to say it, but bitchy. They need to take a hint from Jim Butcher et al. on how to write a female character who is both awesome and not a...bitch. I never cared for Jenny much either and I could barely stand Mac.

And I too dislike the fact that Gibbs apparently not only knows everyone in the entirety of military but has history with them, too. Couldn't we have a different character tie in for once? I know he's the only team member with service, but still. Character development: yer doin' it wrong.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-06-08 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I agree 100% with how NCIS and JAG wrote women. Abby is the one exception. To them power=bitch. It's is NOT the case. Murphy is a great example of how power and personality and kickass-atude =/= bitch. I wish these writers would learn it.

The Gibbs tie in was stupid. Especially since it went against previously stated facts regarding the case as well as it doesn't work within the 1991 magic year timeline. *sigh* Oh well.
