I haz a senator!

Remember how the US had elections last November? The MN senate race was deemed too close to call and has been in contention ever since. (I posted about it back then here.) Well, first there was a recount. Then a court case. Then an appeal. But FINALLY the MN Supreme Court has ruled in Franken's favor and Coleman has officially conceded!!!

MPR article. Newspaper article.

It's about bloody time.

Well it's about damned time.

Seriously. Nearly 8 full months!!!

Although it does go to show that every vote makes a difference. At the final count before the recount Coleman was ahead 214 votes. But now, after the recount and the first court case, Franken took the seat by 312 votes. 312. That's it.

Yep. Let's hope it doesn't come down to something like that again.

Finally, Amy Klobuchar gets someone to help around the office. :)

I really did feel sorry for her throughout all this mess.

She seems to be a smart, funny, lovely lady. She's been on Rachel and Countdown a lot and it's always fun to see her. BIG TEETH!!!

Congratulations! Now all your political turmoil is a thing of the past!

(I wish you many boring elections in the years to come...)

Ha! I hope so! Although it looks like our current governor is being groomed for presidential candidacy. yippie.

YAY! Glad you guys finally have someone. That's crazy how long it took.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
It was insane. I am SO glad it's finally over! :)

Congratulations! I was a little shocked when I read that Coleman had conceded but I guess common sense and good manners had to kick in eventually.

It's assumed the republican party told him that in no way was he to put Pawlenty in the position to have to go against the MN supreme court and not sign for Franken to be seated. Pawlenty is a darling of the party at the moment and appears to have presidential hopes.

Heh, how could I have forgotten that politics might have played a role in that?

And hey, you now have Al Franken for a Senator. How awesome is that?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-01 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's completely official as of noon or something when the governor signed the appropriate papers!

It is pretty awesome, but then again I'm colored by having had Jesse the body 'I want to be reincarnated as a 34DD bra' Ventura as a governor so maybe my sense of what a politician is supposed to be is a little off.

I swear, you guys have all the fun.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2009-07-01 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but we also have Michelle Bachman (well, not me personally, but as a state) so there is that side of the loonybin as well

I saw that headline and I imagined you'd probably be having a celebratory donut.

I loved that Jon Stewart pulled out the "indecision 2008" sign to talk about it.

but, omg, so glad that stupid election is over.

Hee. I figured that icon would come out.
