Quick Writercon update
As a lot of you know writercon is being held in Minneapolis this weekend. As it's being held here there really wasn't any sort of excuse for me not to go since I'd have no hotel or travel costs (other than taking the bus back and forth each day).
I've never been to a con before, any kind of con whatsoever, so everything was new to me. And I don't do well in crowds or uncertain situations at all but overall the first day went pretty well. I did learn that the cutesy names the different panels and workshops had didn't necessarily give you the right impression of the subject manner (Enough Kissing, Get On With the Maiming! Gen-Fic, for example, was about gen fic in general. Had I realized that I would have attended.)
I met a bunch of really nice people, of whom I've forgotten most of their names (if any of you are reading this please give a shout out to remind me) and it was really nice to meet face to face a few authors I've read and commented back and forth with (let's see, another local girl, SPN writer
roque_clasique as well as fellow gen SGA writers
greyias and
sgatazmy) as well as just having tons of DW/TW conversations with various people who I'll try to remember the names of when I'm a little more awake.
Panels/workshops wise I went to three yesterday, and they ranged from truly excellent (on being a beta) to I wish I'd skipped, but that's the nature of these things I guess. I'm really looking forward to the hurt/comfort one today. In theory the panels and whatnot go on until 11:30 tonight, but there's no way I'll make it that long (especially with the 30+ min bus ride home to look forward to afterwards. I grabbed the 10:20ish bus last night after waiting for it 10 min in the rain and sort of missed my stop because I couldn't see enough to pull the cord at the right time and I'd rather not have a repeat performance of that)
Oh, I never did find
scarlettgirl, sorry
travels_in_time and
rustydog, I'll try to track her down today.
