Party Time!!

It's time for the Fourth Annual “Come As You’re Not” fanfic costume party!

What kind of costume party is this you ask? Every year [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal hosts a Halloween party with the idea that you should write something you normally wouldn't. Never written a crossover before? Now's the time to give one a try. Always write slash? Write gen. Or het. Write a cliché. Dip your toes into a fandom you've never tried before. Etc, etc. But most of all HAVE FUN.

Personally, I had a blast writing for the '07 and '08 parties, writing my first crossover ever (and learned I love writing crossovers and have written more than 80 since then) and my first attempt at truly diverging from canon for an alternate ending to an episode. I'm still not sure what costume I'll wear for the '09 party, but I hope to see lots of you there!

This sounds fun and tempting, but . . . what on earth would I wear *g*

A year or so ago it would be easy, but now I've done slash, het, gen, femmelash, broken my OTP, written pairings and characters I never thought I'd write, written crack, AU, crossover, angst, death, fluff, sap, lengthy sex scenes (okay that was several years ago) and just about every other sub-genre I can think of over the ten years.

*Ponders*

What are you aiming to do?

Well, you could try a new fandom (West Wing, maybe?). Or even a different pairing (Gibbs/a woman or something?) Or an atypical crossover. Basically, the idea is just to go outside your comfort zone a bit.

I've been debating slash for my costume- either very kinky slash or plotty porn or something like that. Or something completely AU (like one of those stories where the characters are in space or dragons or whatever).

I did West Wing at the end of August *g* Toby/Sam.

If I don't believe in something though, I can't write it. I have tried before. A threesome, maybe? Hmmm. What would you consider an atypical crossover?

Ooh, now that would be a huge change for you? My friend [livejournal.com profile] aingeal8c writes Due South with Ray Vecchio as a dragon in quite a few stories.

Oh, that's right, but it was a small fic. You could do a longer or plottier one. Or a NCIS/West Wing crossover then? A threesome would definitely work. For atypical crossovers what about a kid's show and NCIS? Or a fantasy/scifi show and a 'regular' one?

I've read plenty of stories like that- or NCIS in Roman times with Gibbs as a centurion and Tony his slave- or whatever. I've never written anything like that.

Thanks for the pimpage and especially for mentioning crossovers because I might have left it out of the invite and Come as You're Not LOVES crossovers!

You forgot to mention crossovers?!? The HORRORS! :)

I might have. If so, I'll go in and edit.

I'll be there even if it means me dusting off my spare costume from last year (it got shoved in the cupboard as a hopeless case but *shrugs* I don't know... it might be salvagable with a liberal application of duct tape, glue and glitter).

I've changed costumes about 13 times already. glitter and duct tape might be the way to go!
