Yuletide is Awesome. (yes, it deserves the capital)
A few thousand fandoms, a few thousand writers, Yuletide madness, the works. I participated for the first time last year, and ended up churning out 5 different fics for five different fandoms. I had a blast.
But was called wench after the reveal by Kgal because I'd written one for her and not told her about it.
Technically, 3 pinch-hits and one stocking stuffer. All for different fandoms (original was Mary Russell, then HIMYM, Scrubs, State of Play and Heroes RPF)
Stocking stuffers are Yuletide Madness. Once everyone has a 1000+ word story, all the requests open up again and you can submit anything of any length. This lasts for a day or two, right before the archive opens.
Yeah, the pinch-hits get totally nuts. I probably won't pick any up this year, since it'll be in the middle of finals, but maybe I'll get out a stocking stuffer or two.
SO much slash potential between Callen and Sam that it's scary My husband's only been out of bed a while and he just looked at me, raised and eyebrow and *smirked*.
he's a smart, smart man. there's a hilarious picspam someone did about the two of them with all the looks and touches and everything. Those two are so cute together
Speaking as the eeeeevil one, I must second the emotion. YULETIDE ROCKS! So many fandoms. So many great writers. Stories written from pure love.
The one thing to keep in mind is that you can work your ass off, and write an amazing story, and still not get lots of comments or recs. So you need to focus on writing the best story you can and not worry about the rest.
(In the past, I've hosted a "support group" for people who were feeling depressed about those issues.)
I'm incredibly proud of the work I've done for yuletide. Where else would I have written an 8000 word Ocean's 11 fic with NO SLASH?
I've experienced that many times before, I'd just be happy if the person being written for comments (Last ficathon I participated in they didn't, which *sucked*)
I leaning towards doing signing up, I'm looking over the fandoms now.
So you choose 3/4 fandoms with specific characters and certain characters that you want written for you. And you sign up saying which 3/4 fandoms and characters you can write. And then you get matched up with someone who posted something similar?
Actually you can volunteer to write in more than four fandoms. As many as you like really.
And since you can pick specific characters the matchup gets pretty specific.
Then to clarify or expand you can write a "Dear Santa" letter to expand on what you do or don't want in your fic.
Here's mine from last year. http://karaokegal.livejournal.com/375999.html#cutid1
I ended with two Heroes RPF fics (including a drabble from that sneaky wench, hllangel, both of which were everything I could possibly have asked for and made me deliriously happy.
Ah, thanks for the clarification. And the santa letter looks like a good way of trying to explain what you want better.
Question though- if it doesn't specify TV or movie, how do you know which it is? (I checked the character list and it seems to imply tv vs movie though)
Is this State of Play? I haven't checked the fandom list yet. I'd have hoped they differentiated those two. (Cause I barely acknowledge the movie and have no interest in writing for it.)
No- Magnificent Seven. I was confused becuase I noticed several things specify, either TV or book or movie or even what year's movie, but M7 didn't. The characters are from the tv though, so I assume that's what it's for?
I've really gotten sucked into the tv fandom lately- there's a lot of great stuff and it's weird because there are several shared wonderful AU playgrounds that tons of people write in, including moving the seven to modern times as ATF agent.

1. There should be more State of Play fic.
2. Don't look at me, I can't write it.
