Glory Days

Title: Glory Days
Pairing/Rating/Warning: none, rated G
Word Count: 100
Summary: Jack reminisces
Beta: [personal profile] unfeathered

He used to be a con man.  A rogue.  Fully embracing the mottoes ‘consequences be damned’ and ‘full speed ahead!’  No ties.  No responsibilities.  A lover in every port.

Always on the move, looking for another world, another time, another person to swindle.   Adventure and romance beckoned him from every turn.  It was a bit lonely and definitely dangerous.  But he’d never felt more alive.

And, best of all, there was no paperwork.  Jack sighed, picking a form off the pile on his desk.  A requisition form for more requisition forms?  Utter madness.  Now, why did he settle down again?

Squeee! I love this! The punchline is so unexpected, and I love the change of tone as we shunt forward to present-day Jack.

Poor Jack. *g*

Hee! I like it. :)

(But "fulling embracing" should be fully... ;) )

Thanks, and thanks for the look-see

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks, I fixed it now

Awh, poor old Jack! I really like this.

Hee! Nothing like paperwork to make you long for the good old days. Poor Jack, but I got a laugh out of it, anyway!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks, and lol at your icon- two Jacks!

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] baffledking made it for the fest. Tis rather spiffy!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
a laugh is good! :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
so much pretty!! No one's mentioned any problems with the fest, have they?

[identity profile] smithy161.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing at all. There seems to be quite a bit of enthusiasm for it. I still really can't believe what happened to you over that drabble. A couple of stories have already been posted, and no one seems to have attacked those guys. It makes completely bugger all sense.

Ah, the good old days. Most people acquire a morgtgage and a spouse (or at least alimony) and some kids. Jack just gets paperwork :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still a bit worried the fest is asking for trouble, but people seem to be having fun with it.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
paperwork can be much worse than kids... eventually the kids'll be out of the house, but the paperwork will still be there waiting to be filled out.

[identity profile] laurab1.livejournal.com 2007-11-21 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, Jack. I like that :)

Oh poor Jack...

Hey here's an idea - why doesn't he get a man in to do it for him?
Or
he could make himself a clone... or two...

What's that?
It's already been done?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Now, now.. play nice with the poor boy

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 01:55 am (UTC)(link)

Yay! ::bookmarks::

[identity profile] eumenidis.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
He's handled Daleks, Abaddon, the end of the universe, & a psychopathic Time Lord; now he faces his most horrific challenge ever:

BUREAUCRACY!!!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
spoken like someone who's faced their share of paperwork... mountains and mountains of paperwork...

[identity profile] eumenidis.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mountain *ranges* of paperwork. & archives going back decades. 'S one reason why I empathize so readily with Ianto. I just hope Jack has the sense to stay out of Ianto's way & let him handle things; clueless bosses are truly a heavy cross to bear...

*grin* Paperwork is beyond evil.

Much enjoyed - just the right tone and pacing. And gave me a big grin :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't everyone hate paperwork? :) glad you liked it
