My kids are off at sleep-away camp right now. The camp has a rule that in order to get into lunch on Wednesdays you must bring a letter to mail. As a result we've (or I should say our cat) has received the following two (guess how many Wednesdays he's been at camp?)letters from our son:

(first letter)

Meow meow mrrrt mmmrtert meow meow *yawn* drt drrrrt meow meow. Kato, I ♥ you. You are my favorite kitty in the household. Please write back

(second letter)

Hows your food. The food here is good. it is raining right now. I hope its not raining there otherwise you'll make your ma-aw-a-a-a noise again

That's it. Word for word the letters my son has sent. Not even a 'tell mom hi' or 'tell mom to write back' or anything.

*sigh*

I don't know whether that's hilarious or a little sad .. Probably a bit of both.

Heh. That rates up there with the time we got a letter from Eldest at camp. It said, "Your letter is E." Smartass.

bwhahahaha what a sense of humor!

I plan on saving the letters to be used as some sort of bribing material when he's older (i.e. do X or I'll show so-and-so that letter to the cat!)

Aww, they are really touching and amusing.

Bless him.

Hmmm, fodder for later in life, methinks? Rather like the 'naked baby pictures'.

I guess him missing you out says that he's fine and having a good time and not homesick, but it would have been nice to have been acknowledged.

Absolutely!

I think it's hysterical :)

Smart kid! You have to bring a letter; rules don't specify who it should be addressed to.

As a rebel, I applaud his spirit. I hate to be told what to do also. :D

As a mom, I might also feel like smacking him.

I give him points for creativity! :)

As a teacher, I give him an A for creativity and a C for effort. C- for not mentioning his mother!

Haha, your kid is awesome!

Aww, how cute!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Cute... yes... :)

[identity profile] fritti13.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
LOL!! You cracked me up! That is very similar to what MY son would have done. He's 27 now and still an ornery shit.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Boys. It's a good thing they are so cute when they're little or they may not have lived to be big....

[identity profile] pointytilly.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Those are awesome letters.

You should write one back from the cat that mentions you wanting a letter too ;p.

bwhaha that's an idea! Sign it with a paw print, right?

I'm pretty sure the camp my daughter is working at has a rule like that as well. Unfortunately it doesn't apply to the counsellors, though I really think it should (mind you, we have had quite a few phone calls this year - mostly because she just *really* wants to come home).

Maybe drt drrrrt meow meow is cat! for "Tell mom hi" ?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt they have rules for the councellors either here, and both kids are already thinking about working there. Daughter writes all the time (and has written lots of other people) it's just son that doesn't.

Is this the same camp that she worked at last year? I'm sorry it isn't going well this year :(

[identity profile] mad-jaks.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think boys feel the need to 'converse' the same way that girls do...

Yep the same camp as last year - she was in two minds about going back at all (for lots of reasons) but decided to in the end, mostly because the Director told her he'd implemented quite a few of her suggestions from last year.

I think that a lot of it is that she's missing her boyfriend (she didn't have one this time last year).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2010-07-10 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, the boyfriend issue might make a big difference!
