The universe was a big place.
But he knows the someday, sometime, he will have seen it all.
How many places can one go over the millennia? Eventually ‘exciting and new’ will become ‘bland and old’ and carefree will morph into careworn. How long will it be before he turns into a wayworn traveler, trudging from place to place, only moving because staying still would be even worse? And he’ll never have to burn a bridge behind him, just merely wait while time took its toll and it crumbled down on its own.
How many names will he have?
How many lovers?
How many times will he say he’ll never forget only to have the moment inexorably worn out of his memories by the passage of time?
Where will he be in a thousand years time? In a hundred thousand? A hundred million?
And more importantly... will there be coffee?
“Really Sir, another cup already?”
It’ll be alright, no matter where, no matter when, just as long as there is coffee.
