NCIS 8.11 "Ships in the Night"

NCIS pokes fun at its own canon:

CGIS (Coast Guard Investigative Service) Agent Borin mentions her rule no. 1. She said McGee should remember them, but McGee responded that he already had a rule #1 to remember... actually two of them.

Yay for canon remembering they screwed up before and made two number ones!

eta- Gibbs just said he'd be breaking rule #1- Never putting suspects together.

HOWEVER. Please look at your laws, NCIS, when arresting someone. Having sex with a 17 yr old in D.C. is not an arrestable offense. Age of consent is 16 in DC. (as it is in a lot of the US)

I usually jump all over these legal inaccuracies, but in this case I don’t think it was necessarily inaccurate. Virginia's age of consent is 18, so my guess would be that the hotel was actually located in Virginia, not DC. DC is tiny (roughly the same size as the City of Richmond) and a lot of what most people consider to be “DC” is actually in Virginia or Maryland.

Man, with both of Gibbs’ rules #1, her rule #1, Abby’s rule #1 and Tony’s rule #1 it’s a miracle that anyone can keep them straight haha

Ah, good point. I hadn't thought of Virginia. Maryland's is 16 though. The age of consent thing is one of those things that just bug me- it's done incorrectly ALL THE TIME in various canons and fanfic.

There are far to many rules to remember, it makes my head spin just thinking about them all.
