Coolest library ever

Kansas City Public Library, Missouri, United States

random, I know, but I just saw the picture and had to share

That's awesome! I love it. Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it? I saw a list of coolest buildings and thought that library was just the neatest thing. :)

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is amazing :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It does make me wonder how many copies of each of those books it has on hand, it would be ironic if it didn't have any of one, wouldn't it?

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be terribly ironic, that :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
even moreso if one was banned

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, that would be both horrible and funny in a terrible sort of way, methinks

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
yep, I think you're right

[identity profile] chatona.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
\o/ :D :D

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That is freakin' awesome!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm jealous. My local library is boring

Oh wow, that's incredible!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it? :)

[identity profile] haldane.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the random, this is the most awesome library ever.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
:D It was definitely too awesome not to share

[identity profile] rustydog.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember where I've seen that before, but it's just AWESOME. Woo!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I found it in a list of 20 of the World's Coolest and Bizarre Buildings (http://www.furniturefashion.com/2011/01/20/20-of-the-worlds-coolest-and-bizarre-buildings.html). Some of the buildings on it are amazing

[identity profile] phoenix64.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That's AMAZING. Kansas City must be so proud - they should be!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-01-26 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Kansas City should be patting themselves on the back for that library, it's just amazing

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Best library exterior EVER.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it? It almost makes me want to go to Missouri, just to see that library.

Absolutely random britspeak question but which sounds better "999 was called five and a half minutes ago" or
"999 was rung five and a half minutes ago" (yes, I realize both are weirdly worded, there can't be any POV marker)

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're maintaining a detached omni POV then rung, if it's a person saying it then called. Don't forget I'm northern and don't always use words the same way as someone else might!

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, excellent, thanks. It's someone's thought patterns as they do CPR and try to distract/distance themselves

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Still think called, though they'd probably use rung if they spoke RP English. If they're doing CPR in the UK they're quite likely to be thinking/singing 'Nellie the Elephant' in their heads while they do it to keep time and all or possibly thinking of that versus 'Another One Bites the Dust' - you think of some strange stuff while doing CPR.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Mostly it's just trying to keep the count while waiting. Basically I was trying to fill the prompt of realistic CPR and how it's not a cakewalk to do it

Here's the original comment version (I asked you called vs rang because I'm going to clean it up and post it, but please give it a gander and see what else is wrong with it, I know the 15:2 ratio is not standard anymore, but it works so much better than the current version of CPR

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a bloody good fic! In that scenario 15:2 does work better, and it might even be less tiring than doing more compressions at a time when you're alone. I can manage 4 cycles of 30 before I *have* to stop.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes* Thanks! In classes the 30 cycles were just so ridiculously tiring, I can't imagine doing them for long periods of times. I also figure Sherlock might not be up to date on the whole ratio thing.

So, do you think called or rang? Anything else that needs changing?

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
called, I think. It's a bit more casual and I think even Sherlock would be more casual in those circumstances!

Anything else needing changing? Depending on who is the receiver of the CPR in your head and what you want to convey I'd consider capitalising the Hs in him and he with regards to Him living but nothing else, I think it's plenty powerful as it stands.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, that's very helpful to know.

It's John needing the CPR in my head, but I'm purposely leaving it unsaid. I hadn't really thought about capitalizing the H or not. hmmmmm
