Floriography

Title: Floriography
Fandom/Warning/Rating:
Sherlock Holmes (book canon), rated G
Word Count: 50

Summary:
Watson buys flowers, each flower having its own meaning.
Author's Note: Written for [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes challenge 17: to create a complete story in as few words as possible. Mouse-over the flowers to learn why Watson chose them.

Christmas was a time for family and friends, and, of course, presents. After deciding on flowers, Watson selected carefully, a combination of oak-leaved geraniums and motherwort for Holmes, red roses for Mary and a single adonis for himself; a bit of colour for their graves and for his holiday table.

Author's Note#2: Flower information from here and here.

Oh, this is lovely! Amazing the detail and emotion you've put into 50 words.

Thank you! Floriography is just fascinating, don't you think?

I did a ridiculous amount of research into it, apparently it was incredibly popular during the time of Watson and Holmes.

It sure was! It's so quaint, but really a lovely idea, I think. :)
