The Brown Boot

Title: The Brown Boot
Fandom/Warning/Rating:
Sherlock BBC, none, rated G
Word Count: 221
Beta: [livejournal.com profile] _medley_
Summary: The chase was thrilling until it ended badly.
Author's Note: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes amnesty prompts wherein 10 fics are written for 10 prompts and all are part of the same story arc. This is the first story, for the prompt "Begin your prompt fill with the following: Icy pavements and oblivious pedestrians were not ideal conditions for active pursuit of a criminal."

Icy pavements and oblivious pedestrians were not ideal conditions for active pursuit of a criminal, John thought as his feet nearly slipped out from under him as he rounded the corner a bit too fast. It was snowing; big fat, fluffy flakes landed on John's eyelashes and icy cold ones slipped under his collar. He was freezing and he had a stitch in his side but nothing could put a damper on the thrill of the chase for him. It was London in winter, there was a killer on the loose and it was utterly glorious.

Or, it was until he took a tree branch to the side of the head.

Then the world went fuzzy and too bright. Pavement swam up to meet him and he couldn't get his hands under him and then he was lying down, the ground cold underneath his cheek. The pair of brown leather boots he'd been following were mere centimetres from his face, but then one boot pulled back and kicked him hard in the shoulder. A brown leather boot with a crack in the sole and laces kept together with sellotape. Then it drew back once more and struck him in the head.

His last thought before he let the darkness win was that he must remember to tell Sherlock about the boot.

Story continues in Boredom Reigns. The masterpost to this entire verse can be found here.
