I also did my first work as a beta this month. Honestly, it was humbling to have been asked to help, and a little scary to make suggestions, but really, really nice to hopefully have helped others the way my amazing betas have helped me.

This month the idea of the alien donuts was born, with the creation of two crack!verses here (and two others in friend's journals).

All in all though, this month was not one I care to repeat, ever. I've completely lost the ability to write anything longer than a ficlet. And while 40 fics in a month is impressive, the quality of said fics was just nowhere near where it should be, there's only a handful here worth being proud of.

40 fics, 7710 words (33 drabbles)

Heck, I'm impressed with the work it took just to compile and format this list!

It was a fun month for me, reading your stuff, plus you're responsible for the only things I wrote this month, and you beta'd for me. :) But I know you had the craptastic trolls, which was not fun to deal with.

I've completely lost the ability to write anything longer than a ficlet.

I have no expertise on the matter except for what I've read professional writers say, but apparently sometimes it's good just to keep flexing your muscles even if you're not writing what you really want to write. You know, the advice, "Write *something* every day." Which you have literally done!

coding this was a nightmare.

Some things this month were great, I love that people took my ideas (the OC from the guilty pleasures and the donuts) and were inspired to write more with them.

And I'm very happy with how the Nancy fic and Jack/original Jack ficlet turned out. And, Dief POV, because, well, he's a wolf! And I did take that advice to heart and *wrote* nearly every damn day, but too much turned out like junk food- it's there and people liked it but there's no meat or substance to it.

Maybe sometimes writing is like science, where 80 percent (or more? I don't have the figures on that) of the experiments you set up don't lead to anything, but you have to get through them to get where you're going. (And sometimes the "failed" experiments actually turn out unexpectedly good results, just in a different direction.) Or like photography, where a lot of times you have to take 30 pictures to get a couple of good ones.

I think if you're critically happy with even a portion of that list, you've done well. I know I don't have much experience though.

that's brilliant. utterly brilliant. thanks

Yay science! Supposedly Edison tried 2000 substances before he found a material that would work as the light bulb filament. I don't know if it's true, but I find it encouraging.

I think I've heard that before. It makes sense. A lot of stuff is all how you look at it

It's just mislaid - so you'll find it again - unlike, say, those of us who could never really do it in the first place *hugs*

It's been a bit of a weird month for several of us, hasn't it?

But I really don't think you need to put yourself down about your fics. There are some really, really good ones in that lot, and you've made a lot of people smile and giggle and laugh, and that's worth a hell of a lot. :-)
