ugh

So, due to a combination of internet, real life and brain-fail issues, I failed at posting everyday for conscifanmo. *sigh*

Two weeks worth of fic is still pretty good, right?

*passes cake and donuts*

We still have a few days? Maybe you'll get a burst of time and a spark of inspiration?

*pours a drink*

I successfully made eggnog for the first time ever this weekend. :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've never had it, not the real kind, only the 'holly nog' (http://www.kemps.com/fridge/beverages/kemps-holly-nog-1-flavored-milk-half-gallon/) and 'egg nog' (http://www.kemps.com/fridge/beverages/premium-golden-egg-nog-half-gallon/) they sell in grocery stores in the milk section. Hubby likes it. I am... not a fan.

I essentially used the recipe from here (with a couple of minor adjustments) http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/eggnog/ is ice warm as well as chilled.

I had no idea that's how you make it

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
One of my friends has always wanted to try it, and had bemoaned the fact that you can't buy the stuff in cartons over here. As it was her birthday I promised to make her some from scratch. It was bloody gorgeous, both with and without alcohol and she was rather pleased.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that's so awesome of you. Is it just not available in cartons in your town or in the UK in general?

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
My friend and I are from opposite sides of the country and neither of us has ever seen it in the normal shops. It might be available in some specialist stores, or in London for instance, couldn't tell you.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that stinks. It's everywhere here.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I had fun both making it and drinking it - wouldn't get that with the cartoned stuff! :)

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
excellent point. And yours was probably 100x tastier and healthier.

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure about healthier! :D

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
less preservatives and unpronounceable things at least?

[identity profile] aeron-lanart.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
True, the only preservative used was alcohol (in the spiked version).

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2012-12-18 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Alcohol is an excellent preservative :)
