Opinions?

For the past week I've been working on a fill for a kinkmeme (the prompt is for a gen crossover), it's been a struggle and I'm 2/3rd done or so but a fill for the prompt was posted this morning. Normally, I'm all for multiple fills but this one is in EXACTLY the same style as I was writing and obvious has many same plot points (as it's a fill for the same prompt). So, do I:

a) Finish writing and post it anyway (to the meme, my LJ and AO3)
b) Finish writing and post it to my LJ and AO3, but not the kinkmeme
c) Take this as a sign and put it aside

(option d could be to rewrite it in a different style, but I am loathe to do that.)

I should mention that the style is fairly typical for the crossover fandom, a good number of the fics in it are written that way as it's the style of the show.

ETA- I decided to go with B with a smidge of A. Posted it to my LJ and AO3 and linked, but did not post, at the kinkmeme. The final story did wind up with some similarities, but wasn't overly the same.

I say 'A' - most definitely.

Thanks :)

I'd probably go with B. I'd definitely keep writing it. Depending on just how similar the plot details were, would determine if I posted it to the kinkmeme.

Hmm, yeah, that's something I was considering too. Thanks

I'd finish it if you can, and make a decision at how similar it is. Looking at it from the other writer's perspective, I might feel a bit miffed if someone posted something so similar after I posted--especially if, for example, your version was better received.

But, I would finish and post it elsewhere, definitely. If you want to, of course. If you're sick of fighting with it, then you don't have to feel guilty about walking away.

I'm going to try to finish it so yeah, I might just see how similar it winds up. As of yet theirs is not at AO3, which is good.

If you WANT to finish it, since you've put so much work into it, I'd go with A. But if you're sick of fooling with it and want to put it aside, then you shouldn't feel like you HAVE to finish it.

I am trying to finish it because, well, WORDS and all. Thanks

I'm not sure if I'd go with A or B. It depends on how similar your fic is. Definitely finish it and post it somewhere.

I think I might wait until it's done and compare. Thanks.

If I was the OP, I'd be delighted to get two fills instead of just one. "Similar" fics are never totally identical.

(I once wrote a fill to an awesome prompt that got a really (really) crappy fill. It was so bad I sat down with my daughter/co-author and wrote the OP a better one.)

This! (...she said, weighing in late)

:) All inputs are welcome!

I managed to finish the fic so decided to post it, sort of- I linked to it on the meme, not post it there. But yeah, more fills the better, right?
