Welcome to Night Vale in ASL

I know there are some WTNV fans on my flist and I recently came across this and wanted to share:

Near as my terrible, rusty ASL skills can tell it's a pretty good job. There is subtitles to read along but if you'd rather listen you can do so here.

Oh MAN this is cool. I can't sign--I really need to learn--but my ma and sister are both learning pretty seriously.

(I'm bummed I can't share this with them because the Cecil/Carlos would probably shut everything down. I would love to use Night Vale to get a little ASL vocabulary)

I studied ASL way, way back. I always wanted to really learn it but just never had the time/skill and have forgotten most of what I knew, but I still love watching things like this. :)

This is very cool! I only know WTNV peripherally, but this is a great idea and the translation looks pretty good, though my ASL knowledge ends with ASL 2. I like the idea of podcasts and radio being available to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing without having to read a transcript.

Isn;t it?

WTNV is fun, in a weird well-that-happened kind of way. I love it when fans do stuff like this.

I feel that way about the Cabin Pressure fandom and what they do with just voices only. Radio makes you creative, I think.

I think you are right about that.

I never could get into Cabin Pressure. I just could get engaged by the story.

I understand that. The first season is a bit...random, I guess, but as it goes along, the characters settle in and you start to root for them. I really admire Finnemore's female characters, and the way he writes his dialogue. I totally get that's it not for everyone, but I'm a big fan. I listen to a lot of radio these days, while I work on the computer.

I can't listen to audio fic when I'm doing other things, my mind wanders too much. Maybe I'll try it again later when walking the dog, that's when I listen to Night Vale and it seems to work better.

I do it when I'm making icons or playing computer games. Once I did it while rolling change for my mum. Mum and I listen to CP while crafting, too. But I can't write or sort of...think when I have someone talking. I have to pause if I need to do that.

It's nice that you two listen together :)

It is! It's fun to have a fellow nerd in the house to share things with.

I don't know ASL or follow WtNV at all and good lord, the translator is so happy! Aww, he's making me happy just watching. He's so sunny!

Sign is amazing for that, it's always so expressive I just love watching it.
