Sherlock comments (mostly apathetic and negative)

I find myself much less fannish coming out of season three than I was going into it. The entire series felt off to me- like tptb were patting themselves on the back and giggling with a wink wink nod nod to various bits of fandom. There wasn't a cohesive story to be had in any of the episodes, and the 'mysteries' that were presented were anything but.

Sherlock's return was done, in a word, terribly. The opening scene had no point other than as eye candy, it was never really referenced again, nor is any problems Sherlock might have faced from it or hiding and being on the run for the two years. His manner of reveal to John was horrid and ridiculous. He was trying to keep his resurrection quiet and chose such an overly public place for it? Three times no less? And HOW he treated John just makes me angry. On many, many levels. Especially the end conversation/confrontation. John deserved better treatment from the writers. Much better. Wellingtongoose's review of Empty Hearse says everything I want to say on that matter.

The "will they save him in time" issue in Empty Hearse was moronic at best. Of course they would. Considering the person and the fact it wasn't anywhere near the end of the episode there was no way they wouldn't, they HAD to. We knew they would. And since the issue wasn't HOW then there was no tension. That was a pacing issue problem that played out through the whole season.

There was also a decision tptb made with the use of flashbacks and various timelines and cutting back and forth between events throughout the season that just felt messy and reinforced my feeling tptb were writing for THEM, telling us what they thought was clever, instead of for US and showing us the clever.

The less said about the murder mystery in the second episode, the better. It was medically impossible to occur the way they wrote it and kind of ridiculous as a result. And the way most of the speech went made me start to actively dislike Sherlock as a character for turning the focus of the event to him, not to who it was supposed to be on.

The fact there was more to meets the eye with Mary and then "solution" to the third episode were also horridly obvious. Maybe I've seen to much tv/read too many books, maybe I'm just clever, maybe it's just bad writing, I don't know, but it all left me going "right...and?" And as for the last few seconds?

*yawn*

I don't care how it could be or why. I find myself not really caring if Sherlock is renewed or demanding more episodes RIGHT THIS MINUTE like other shows (or previous seasons of Sherlock itself) left me feeling. I'm more interested in seeing another RDJ/Jude Law Sherlock Holmes movie (not that one is planned as far as I know) than more BBC Sherlock.

I'll put my hopes for what/how that scene could have played out under a further spoiler cut:

I seriously hope it's not Moriarty but rather something Sherlock put into play so he wouldn't get sent away or it's actually Moran or SOMETHING set up by the remnants of Moriarty's network because otherwise it's just ridiculously stupid. Moriarty blew his brains out. To go back NOW and say "Bwhahaha no, he didn't is disingenuous and insulting.

I did like all the nods to ACD canon and fanon though.

This series would be so much better if tptb acknowledged the fact that their Sherlock's not a hero, but rather an antihero with delusions of grandeur.

Oh YES, absolutely.

This series did have a really weird feeling to it. I understand that it's probably difficult to continue something after taking such a long break, but it felt very strange indeed.

I keep saying it should be called "Everyone John Watson Loves is an Asshole". I don't know. It was entertaining, but I kept getting angry. Especially in ... nope, just throughout it all haha.

Yeah, that would be a good subtitle for it. I kept getting angry too, it was actually hard to make myself keep watching in parts.
