White Collar finale

Was there supposed to be tension in this episode? Because there wasn't. There was no doubt in my mind that Neal and Peter would find the diamond. There was no doubt that Jones and Diana would find the cure. There was no doubt that Rebecca would double cross them but still not manage to succeed in her plans. And then there's that last 10 minutes. Did anyone really think Neal would be granted his freedom? Could tptb have made Neal's kidnapper any more obvious? Was there *any* way that the episode would end with either Neal getting his freedom or his walking into work safely the next day?

El's new job in Washington was sudden and unlikely, although I did like that while she was fine with Peter deciding against going (which NO, life does not work like that, not on the DAY you were moving- he already accepted the new position, which means most likely someone's been moved into his position in NY, not to mention the housing issues of having bought a home there (which was ridiculously sudden) and whatever they were doing with the Brooklyn home) but that SHE was still going and they'd have to make it work, because El is not one to bend to another's wishes, but still....

I honestly don't know if I'm going to bother watching next season (assuming it has been renewed, I honestly don't know or care). It's become like Covert Affairs for me- I want the best for the characters, but I just don't care about their story anymore. If catching an episode is easy and the show isn't up against anything I might watch out of a sense of obligation or routine, but otherwise? I doubt it. And it's a shame. This show was SO GOOD at one point. *sigh*

i was kind of hoping that at the very end, rebecca would jump off the tower into the water rather than go back to jail. it would've been a total surprise. but no, she submitted meekly to neal. hmph. and no, there was no tension, because of course peter is going to stay in new york, and of course neal is going to keep the anklet, because otherwise there's no show. i did keep wondering how the ptb were going to get peter to stay, so i guess there was some tension in that, but it was more a "how is this going to happen" tension and less "is this going to happen". el still going to dc was unexpected, tho, and i liked that her response to peter wanting to stay was "but it's the national gallery! i can't give that up".

but yeah, peter deciding THE DAY BEFORE THE MOVERS COME that actually he can stay in new york kind of threw me out of the story. not that this show has the closest relationship with reality, but that seemed especially fantastical.

now i feel stupid that i have no idea who kidnapped neal. the guy who was following him looked familiar but i don't know who he is.
