Summary: Someone watches Jack sleep

Jack is asleep.  

I have no idea what I’m doing here, why I feel the need to check on him, but something compels me to return to the Hub and... and what?  Make sure he’s still there?  Make sure he’s all right?  Or, as all right as Jack is capable of being?

I have a cover story ready and everything, and I’m kind of shocked I’m not going to need to use it.  As I peer down into his quarters I can tell that the man who claimed he never sleeps is actually sleeping, completely out cold, hopelessly twisted and tangled in the sheet.  

Even with the sheet wrapped tight around him, or maybe because of it, I can tell that Jack sleeps naked.  Not that it’s horribly surprising to discover that, I’d expected as much.  Watching him from my perch on the ladder, in the dim light slipping in from above, Jack looks almost ethereal.   Perhaps not Adonis, but here, in this light, from this angle, he is stunning.  One foot hangs over the edge in such a way his thigh muscle is flexed.  Muscles ripple in amazing ways everywhere, across his broad shoulders, down his powerful arms...  I’d forgotten how strong a man he truly is.  Stronger, physically and mentally, than I’ll ever be.  

There was a time that I had been terrified of that strength, unable to face my inability to measure up.  And I had struck out.  At him.  I’d done the unthinkable, but he had forgiven me.  What kind of man is capable of that?  Accepting betrayal?  Letting bygones be bygones?  There is simply no way to repay Jack for the second chance he’s given me.   

I doubt I am a doctor on par with the one he’d been searching for.  And if that doctor couldn’t fix him there is no way I can.  But maybe Jack doesn’t need fixing.   Maybe he just needs to be here, with us, in this time and place; somehow it has become home for him and keeping him company in it will be enough.

Ooo, pretty. And awfully sweet. Nice to see this view of Owen, one that actually manages to fall in line with the softer side of his character. Beautifully done. Thanks for sharing!

This is just lovely. (All I did was change verb tenses, so I can say that. *g*) I love the description, Owen's wonder over Jack's forgiveness, and his thought that maybe he doesn't need to fix Jack, just be there for him.

You are wonderful and this is beautiful. The description of Jack is just *murgle* and this bit And if that doctor couldn’t fix him there is no way I can. just makes makes me want to hug Owen; I get an element of despair in that, the sort that comes from knowing that sometimes you just aren't able to help and it hurts to acknowledge it. My God, I like Owen, what is happening in Torchwood? *g*

I love Owen so much and this just shows all the reasons for that. He feels things so deeply and sees so much,
I loved his question to Jack "Did he fix you?" always the doctor and always caring no matter how sarcastic the exterior.
