"What is happening, why is she making that awful noise?"

"Sally? It's okay, try to stay calm. Anderson, ring for an ambulance? It's an allergic reaction, Sherlock, her throat is swelling shut, but I'm here and I can help. Sally, I know you're scared, but don't worry. Greg's right behind you and he's going to lower you to the ground and I'll perform a tracheotomy and you'll be able to breathe again. Okay?"

"Sally! John? Is she…."

"She's fine, she passed out as I expected. Okay, I can sterilize this knife with a lighter, but does anyone have a pen?"

Epi-pens are always effective, depending on how bad the reaction was and whatnot, but hero!John is always good, right?

Epi-pens expire, especially if you haven't used one for awhile and got busy and forgot to replace it. . . . just sayin'.

Actually, the effects of the EpiPen are short-lived and just enough to keep you from suffocating until Dr Awesome shows up (or in real life, you are rushed to the hospital).

Sorry, I have a weakness for improvised emergency medicine. (I also had a dream once where I was in the trenches in WWI and had to write a very important communique to send to HQ, but kept having to use any pens I found to perform tracheotomies.)
