On the WTF food front...

So a few weeks ago son and I discovered a rather, shall we say, questionable item at the grocery store

We had a good laugh over the sheer wtfery of it.

Then I made the mistake of sending him to pick up a few things on his own. The following is now being made in my kitchen....

(He's taking them to a friend's house where a group of them are going to consume and mock them.)

(The gummy bears' colors keep getting brighter, I am teetering between scared and disturbed.)

LOL. I'm totally with you on your reaction!

Son reports that they just tasted like normal brats that were kind of extra sugary. He and friends were rather disappointed.

LOL. I think I would have preferred that outcome if I had some.

I have yet to see these out in our stores, but if I do I know not to get them lol. My reaction would be the same as yours.

Don't bother with them, son reports that they just tasted like normal brats that were kind of extra sugary. He and friends were rather disappointed.

Wait! What? This is not even remotely related to a donut!

Are there actual Gummy Bears inside the bratwurst?

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2016-11-23 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, gummy bears are the second ingredient and you can see them in there! Son and friends were sad to report that they didn't really add any flavor to the brats though, other to make them oddly sugary and very messy to cook.

lolol OMG!

Scary, right?

I think that's probably the worst (wurst? ;-D) thing I've seen done to gummy bears, and I used to drop them into my soda water and let them dissolve when I was a teenager.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
It was definitely the wurst! lol :D

OK, I think that takes the cake (candy?) for weird food trends...

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is a head scratcher....

[identity profile] awanderingbard.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I was hoping you'd cave and make them for Science! I've been following the saga on tumblr. I would totally give them a whirl if I wasn't allergic to e everything. I have a love of salty-sweet things.

[identity profile] donutsweeper.livejournal.com 2016-11-24 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently they just didn't really work. Son and friends were disappointed. They wound up just being like slightly sweeter than normal regular brats.

first reaction: both grossed out and intensely curious.

second reaction (after reading the comments): disappointed! if you're going to go to all the trouble of putting gummy bears in bratwurst, and then advertise the fact, at least aim for something other than "eh, a little more sugary". hmph.

I know, right? Son and friends were terribly disappointed.
