Timeless has been uncancelled! Again!

According to the show's official twitter Timeless "will be back for a two-part series finale on NBC" at a yet-to-be-determined time. Considering the cliffhanger S2 ended on, that's a good thing. Also, it's telling that fan outcry convinced NBC to uncancel it after S1's original cancellation and bring it back for the 10 ep S2 run and then, again, make NBC change its mind about S2's cancellation and allow it a proper sendoff. It's really become commonplace for tptb to look towards vocal fans as to whether or not shows are picked up/renewed/shopped to different networks.

(Also huzzah for shows with varying and decent representation getting airtime. Out of Timeless' 7 main characters there are more POCs then white people, nearly half (3/7) are women, one of whom is a lesbian with a multiracial family, and there's also a character with ptsd)

Also, FYI folks, Remix Madness has opened. According to the rules anyone may play, whether or not you signed up for the main exchange and the work minimum for requesting a fandom is 1 work of any length and can designate unlimited safe works/fandoms/etc. Getting your fic/art remixed is fun! Consider throwing your hat in the ring.

It's really become commonplace for tptb to look towards vocal fans as to whether or not shows are picked up/renewed/shopped to different networks.

This sounds so exhausting. I hope it's not actual policy but I'm really wondering if somewhere there's a memo like "some shows get cancelled, some get renewed, and for some, let's just watch them beg."

Just give me the show or don't give me the show, don't make it performative and then blame the fans for not performing enough.

I agree wholeheartedly. Although fan behavior post-cancellation (or possible cancellation) seems to be weighing in more and more. Lucifer, B99, Timeless and at least one other (The Expanse maybe?) all wound up getting reprieves and it was at least due in part to twitter campaigns and the like. It's really, really annoying.

To be fair, fan campaigns have been around for AGES. Modern-wise all the way back to Star Trek (if not earlier), but you could say Sherlock Holmes owes his resurrection to fans as well. Still. Kind of annoying that tptb seem to almost test the waters with a cancellation threat to see if they can make fans jump through hoops for them.

Yeah. I feel like at one point, it really might have been a shocked reaction that wait, people actually still like this. (Well, not Sherlock, who my impression is was killed off because ACD felt he was too popular), and so fan reaction tells you that you are incorrect. But now? Now they just want the free publicity.

ACD got tired of writing him, he wanted to write Important Historicals!! (in Caps! and Important! about War!!) not these annoying mysteries but the readers were like.. nah, we want that Holmes guy and we're boycotting the Strand mag until we get more. Needless to say that did not go over well with the publisher of the magazine or anything like that.

But now? Yeah, it's all about the publicity and the SHOCK of killing off characters (because no one ever does that, right?)

But, they think, it's New and Original and ~Shocking~ when they do it!!
