GBBO was a thing
So the season finale for Great British Bake Off was a thing that happened and wow, it's amazing to feel your interest in a show slipping from yay to meh to ugh during a season. It's like the move from BBC started this slow slide of changing everything I loved about it. Paul gave a million of his Oh-So-Rare handshakes the first half of the season (3 an episode for two episodes in a row) before randomly switching to giving none at all. It was obvious ratings were considered when they were picking who left the tent. (And, speaking of the tent, when heat is an issue for more than one episode every year, sometimes a radical, terrible issue, maybe they should do something about it?) The signature bake this week was donuts and for the most part they weren't even appetizing to me. That says all that needs to be said about how far this show has fallen.
I've a bus test version of my yuletide fic done. It's fine, perfectly adequate, but I don't know, I may toss it and try something new. I'd initially grumbled about my assignment and its lack of much other than "whatever!" type prompt which made writing it very difficult but then I looked up the other things I could have gotten due to what I'd offered and I lucked out: a (still) placeholder letter and someone who made it obvious they really only wanted one thing (which I in no way could write). Perusing the requests summary now though, I'm not seeing a lot I can write in general. *sigh* Not sure I'll hit my treat goal this year.
Tomorrow is Half Price Candy Day!! I love Half Price Candy Days. And Orange's is my favorite (the others being pink and pastel, I don't often want to brave the stores to shop the red/green one all that often).

Yay for having a bus test fic! Even if you do toss and try something new, at least you have something as a backup, just in case.

Thank you!! Yeah, having *something* for the assignment is always a good feeling

Also, yes, the heat has been a problem every single year. By some point (probably 4+ years ago tbh) the decision not to either do something about the heating OR THE CHALLENGES is glaring and cruel.
But I'm glad Paul stfu'ed with the handshakes.

It really, really is and frankly I think less of them as a result.

But also that line someone had about when they moved the show without making sure to keep Mel, Sue, and Mary: "they bought a tent", is very accurate. They've got the tent. They don't have the rest of the show that I loved :(

Yeah, basically they really did just buy a tent. :( Oh well, At least there's a few good years to watch repeats of

Plus the Canadian version that I need to finish watching. That one had the improvement of having each person's name on their apron, and also going back to "okay the signature is THE SIGNATURE COOKIE THAT IS YOU", not just showstopper 1.0.

I don't think I even knew that the Kiwi Bake Off was a thing. It does win more points than the US one, though, for being able to call it a bake off.
I absolutely could not get through Amy Pohler's craft off show because all the camera angles and everything was so clearly stolen from bake off and it was a Distraction.

The Kiwi one is only 3 episodes into the first season. I only know about it because I've seen it listed in the same place I go to find GBBO links
